I really don't understand why position players would pass up playing in the WBC. I can understand why pitcher might be skeptical, but even they are on pitch counts. JT saying he wanted to stick with one lineup all tournament might have scared some guys off. Basically told players up front how much playing time they would get. Nice thing to do but if the guys weren't going to be a starter they would rather stay in ST. I think you need utility guys in tournaments like this, just need a few more elite guys than we have.

Zobrist is the best player in baseball who consistently plays middle infield and the outfield. If this was a game in October, I have no doubt he'd be playing third.

But this is just the World Baseball Classic, so they're not gonna play a guy who hasn't played there in a couple of years
