The way they’re doing rosters this year is kinda dumb.
It's always been this way in the WBC.
I don't have a problem with 2nd or 3rd generation guys playing for their great grandfathers team. International soccer and basketball allow that too.
What they don't allow however is being able to switch teams. It's always once you play for a country team, you are tied to that country team forever, barring some really rare circumstances.
In the WBC, they just allow you to play for whoever you want whenever you want.
Case and point, Nolan Arenado and Marcus Stroman were on the USA team that beat Puerto Rico in the final in 2017. Then in 2023, Stroman is pitching for Puerto Rico and now Arenado is playing for Puerto Rico in 2026.
That cheapens it.

And we’re banking in McLean pitching the finals against Japan or the DR? He’s talented but so inexperienced at that stage.

So this is basically a world elite travel ball tournament?

Kinda, but Arenado and Stroman do qualify to play for Puertro Rick through their ancestry.
I just think it's dumb that you can switch teams. It would be fine if it was done like pretty much every other non-Olympic international sport where you are cap-tied to a country once you pay for them.

The offense has got to wake up. They've been leaving guys on base all tournament.

Yeah they shouldn’t be able to switch for sure.

Yep. We’ll get steamrolled by the Dominican or Japan if it keeps up.

It’s amazing what happens when you put baseball on tv instead of a streaming service.

They look like they are sleepwalking. What are the tie breakers if they lost tonight and Mexico beats Italy.

Least runs given up between the tied teams

I wonder if Jac Caglione has ever been to Italy
Posted on 3/10/26 at 9:09 pm to Murph4HOF
Imagine the embarrassment if the US blew this and didn’t advance

Maybe Rome, Georgia or Venice Beach, Florida.
