I don't think it'd be that hard of a sell to the players, especially on such an emotional issue.
Players care about money.

Of course they do, but between the increase in the cap and the limited number of players actually in free agency at this time, the affect on their money is limited. The choice is stand up for all black people everywhere, or let a handful of guys like that white devil Gordon Hayward get $15 million instead of $10 million. Maybe it'd be a hard sell to Luol Deng, not as much to the rest of the league.

2) The power of social media outrage now compared to even just a few years ago.
Social Media is a game changer. Things can't be swept under the rug and old sins become new. Had this been an isolated incident Sterling could very well skate with a fine and suspension. However, deadspin linked every single one of his transgressions to help familiarize people with exactly who he was. There's no rug big enough at this point
Imagine Marge Schott in 2014? It has nothing to do with victimization or faux outrage it's simply people have many more mediums i.e twitter, Facebook, messageboards to discuss their thoughts and opinions. I don't know why that's so hard for some of you to grasp

This is what will happen. Owners aren't idiots, and most of them have things they did in the past that they fear.

Maybe this is revisionist of me, but I feel there is more outrage over this than the Poe Pa/Sandusky situation

The real winners here are the Golden State Warriors.

That and the fact that he's been an owner for over thirty years.
That's a lot of league and owners meetings that he's been a part of where he's probably said some objectionable shite and the other owners ignored that he could dredge up in a lawsuit and make everybody look really stupid.
Sterling is a dirtbag but he isn't getting booted and the entire Clippers team isn't getting granted automatic free agency. The shuttle back to Planet Earth is now leaving.

Pretty much. It's the same reason Michael Jordan was able to maintain his image so well. Things were a lot easier to sweep under the rug 20 years ago, hell even 10 years ago.

Players Association will demand the NBA resell the team or release all Clippers players for free agency.
I read that as "NBAPA president Chris Paul wants another run at free agency".

Not going to start another thread, but Spike Lee is front and center for the press conference...
Posted on 4/29/14 at 12:41 pm to OnTheBrink
Spike Lee believes gentrification is bad and racist, so i pray he shows his arse on this issue, too
oh yeah, he also participated in the Trayvon witch hunt/group think and even tweeted out the (incorrect) address of GZ

I guess they needed at least one professional racist troll in attendance.
Funny thing is that Sterling, as shitty as he is, is less in the wrong for anything he did with regard to racism as Spike did for tweeting what he thought was Zimmerman's home address during the Tayvon mess and advocating people take the law into their own hands.
That address belong to people completely unrelated to Zimmerman, BTW.

Wasn't there a civil suit brought against him because of that?

BREAKING NEWS: NBA has decided to suspend Clippers owner, Donald Sterling, INDEFINITELY and fine with $5 million....
quote:LINK
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has tentatively decided to suspend Clippers owner Donald Sterling INDEFINITELY and impose a multi-million-dollar fine -- but Sterling will NOT be forced to sell the team -- sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ Sports.
We're told the suspension does NOT include members of Sterling's immediate family, but the NBA will have approval rights on who is running the team.
We're told Commissioner Adam Silver had a forensic expert review the recording and found no evidence it was altered and confirmed Sterling's voice.
And we're told ... an NBA investigator spoke with Sterling by phone after we posted the recording and the Clippers owner agreed to sit down for a follow-up interview but then changed his mind and backed out.
And we're told V. Stiviano told NBA reps the same thing we've reported ... that she had Sterling's consent before she recorded him.
One source tells us the fine has been tentatively set at $5 Mil.
