The WNBA has had TV deals since inception. You are killing your own argument.

I wasn't arguing, I was stating facts.

The WNBA is profitable like Enron was profitable. There’s no telling what kind of shell game they playing with the accounting. Probably including the 40mil subsidy the NBA gives them as profit.

And “high attendance”? Give me a break. Nobody goes to these games.

I’d really like to know the arm twisting the league gives the networks just to give the WNBA a tv deal. No way any network carries that stand alone. They’re forced to if they want the NBA.

it's all propaganda and public gaslighting....

they are doing everything in their power to try and lie and convince the public that the WNBA is popular. it's not.

Caitlin Clark is popular, but even she isn't enough to save this anti-America league.

No doubt in my mind that there is a market for the WNBA, and that people do want to watch the games. The problem is that the market is extremely small. They want to get paid “what they owe us”? It’s a lot less than what they think, probably closer to arena football territory.

Only explanation is that they are using it to launder money.

The unfortunate reality is that we live in a world where there's tremendous value in being in a situation where a company is subsidized. Traditionally, this is related to government subsidy where the company isn't financially viable on its own, but is tremendously profitable because of the subsidies it receives. This is easiest to see in the energy industry related to solar power, etc.

The WNBA's most valuable asset is its ties to the NBA. The political headwinds of divesting in the WNBA may be so great that it cannot ever do it despite the financial drain. So, the NBA may simply be required to dedicate this type of money to the WNBA forever.

As an investor, that's the difference between an investment that is a loser...and one that can't lose.

They want the same percentage of revenue sharing (50%) as the NBA players get. Currently the WNBA players only get 9%.

Why does this board have trouble understanding this?

But they are not the NBA and don’t have the same revenue as the NBA. So WNBA owners have less to share with the players. Regardless of the social cause, the owners still want to make money.

Why is that so hard for the women and you to understand?

And before you try the lame, “I’m just stating facts”, your facts sure do seem to favor one of the discussion.

Considering that billionaires are bidding on the purchase of one franchise while other brand new owners are forking out hundreds of millions for expansion teams, I'd say the owners are doing just fine.

50% of what? Total revenue? That's not happening. Private equity owns 16% and they aren't going to share any. NBA owns 42%, doubt they will share either. WNBA franchise owners own the remaining 42%--maybe they can get 50% of that piece.

I agree. It'll be interesting to see which side caves and/or if we see a lockout.

WNBA has never made one red cent in profit.

Can a company not make a singe red cent in profit, yet still be very valuable?

I have no skin in this game. I am an NBA guy and will always be one. I don't watch the WNBA and probably never will. But my goodness, it is fascinating how butthurt some of you get at the mere suggestion of something "positive" regarding the WNBA. Frankly, it's bizarre.

Correct.

Actual sale prices are not. The speculation and "guessing" is over.

Yep, because thats what billionaires do. They pay 325M to buy something not bc they deem it a good investment.....but to convince the public the WNBA is popular. But deep down they know it's not which could jeopardize their investment...yet they still spend 325M to buy a team....?

Do you guys want to use any logic in this discussion or just emotion? Speaking of women.....
