WNBA players have a point but of course go about it the wrong way

The point they have that they should be pushing is that some of their stars deserve way more money.
Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Paige Buekers, A’ja Wilson, and a few others should be making way more than $78k. Clark should probably be making millions. Regardless of whether the WNBA turns a profit, she brings in a ton of revenue and probably deserves to be paid for it.
The problem however is that there are a ton of WNBA players who should be making way less than $78k but of course they aren’t going to go for that.
And then obviously the way they are going about their “protest” is dumb, there is no clear fact based argument being made using data and logic, acting like a victim or that you’re oppressed bc you’re a woman is a great way to turn people off of your argument immediately.
TLDR: there are some WNBA players that certainly deserve a significant pay raise, but the players are going about it in a really dumb way.

The WNBA loses money every year and no one watches the shite. They only work 4 months out the year and make $80k. I’d say they’re all over paid.

Why would any of them deserve more money when the WNBA has never turned a profit? Caitlin makes money outside of the league with endorsements, as does Angel and some others. Good for them. But as a baseline, the league is a money pit.

But Portnoy said the accounting is ambiguous and it doesn’t actually lose money. Seems trustworthy.

They deserve nothing more

The WNBA loses money but the players I listed bring in significantly more than $78k in revenue. If I’m a great employee who’s bringing in 5X the revenue of my peers, I certainly wouldn’t be happy making less money because they aren’t pulling their weight.

They have a new TV deal kicking in, and the league is about to be pretty profitable. Not to mention the influx of $250 million franchise fees for the new teams. The players are looking to get a higher share of the revenue coming in next year.

Nobody watches the WNBA and I will not be gaslit into watching the WNBA.
There has been a marketing push to get people to watch the WNBA and it is not organic. You can just tell.

That’s an incredibly retarded comparison.

Men's soccer is profitable, stars get paid accordingly. This is basic capitalism.

I’d argue that most professional leagues lose money in most years, but players in those leagues still fight for their pay.

So every employee that works for a company that doesn’t make a profit doesn’t deserve to get paid?
I’m not saying they should be making Steph Curry money. But your better employees who make money for your company deserve more money than the ones who don’t. Thats basic capitalism

I say pay them more. It’s not my money.

And in that situation, you’d be looking for another job. Your employer isn’t gonna go more into the red. They’re welcome to go play overseas permanently

I’m with you here, if the better players threatened to walk I bet the league would be willing to pay them.
The problem is they’re getting screwed by their union who wants EVERYONE to make more, even the ones that don’t deserve it

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese get paid less because they're still on rookie contracts that had rookie deal wage scales. NBA and NFL do the same thing with their rookie contracts. Clark and Reese will be among the highest paid players in the league once they sign their 2nd contract.
You can't tell me that Geno Smith is better than Jayden Daniels...yet Geno is making about $40M this season while Jayden is making around $9M. Rookie contract wage scale isn't unique to the WNBA

1.5 Billion people watched Messi win the World Cup in 2022.
The most watched WNBA game happened in 1997 with 5 million people tuning in.
