Without LeBron, NBA Ratings Down 30% from Last Year's Opener

A real issue to watch for ESPN/Turner this year is LeBron's impact on viewership with his move to LA. Celtics-Sixers drew a 2.3 overnight on TNT, down more than 30% from a 3.5 for last year's Cavs-Celtics opener. One X-factor, though, was the ALCS yesterday.

GS-OKC drew a 2.1.

I forget that for the ESPN/TNT doubleheaders the first game isn't gonna have LeBron's team in it very often.

That kinda does suck for the ratings.

Hopefully it's people not giving a rats arse about the NBA.

The mid October start date is gay AF. Back in the good ol days they started on Halloween.

Not a lot of people want to watch a league in early October when they know what team will win the championship come June. I don’t think it’s soley based on lebron.

It’s the second time in 3 years the fastest car on the racetrack got a NOS upgrade (Durant, Cousins).

I’m still watching but I can’t blame people that don’t.

Outside of Lebron the NBA gets pretty shitty ratings. The narrative that it’s exploding in popularity is kinda bs.

It's football season. We'll still have 7 months of the NBA after that.

I pity how utterly empty someone's life has to be to watch a regular season NBA game in October.

That just shows what is wrong with the NBA.

The truly ONLY market ONE player - Lebron.

They do talk about the Warriors/ Celtics/ Rockets........but the whole league is geared towards Lebron.

It will die when he is gone..........because they have no back up plan.
