Will we ever see another player manager in the MLB?

There have been over 200 player-managers in the history of the MLB but we haven’t seen one since Pete Rose in 1986.
The White Sox toyed with the idea of elevating Paul Konerko to the position in 2011.
So will we ever see an MLB team attempt a blast from the past?
And which current player/s do you think could actually pull the job off?

If there is another one, it will be a guy who DH's.
He can still sit on bench and manage, and only has 2 get up to hit, once every 9 hitters.
A lot of sitting time for him to manage.

I don’t think so but it would be fun and interesting to see.

Probably not but I actually think it’s slightly more likely now than maybe 10 years ago. The position has been deemphasized, most of them are younger and just out of the league, rosters have been expanded,

I’m really curious of who could be capable of the job that’s playing right now. I’m more of a casual fan of the MLB these days so I can’t say I’m completely locked into players throughout the league.
A couple of years ago I would have said Beltrán could’ve potentially done it but that’s a freezing cold take these days. I honestly don’t know who is out there.

I'd give it to Yadier Molina, can't be any worse than what they have been doing lately

No chance. MLB would veto it because it has the worst commissioner in sports.

I can’t really think of one. Maybe Zobrist if he continues playing. Beltran would have been a good one, or a veteran third catcher type like Ross was for the Cubs

An Athletic article about Ross taking over the Cubs is actually what got me thinking of this.
I think McCann could be an option if something where to happen to Snitker. I would imagine that there’s a lot of coaches they would point to over him though.

Ha ! Took the words from me. I feel confident he wouldn't have elected to pitch to Ortiz in 13 and have a gimpy Wacha give up a season ending HR the following year.

I know the CBA prohibits it in basketball, and probably does now in baseball

What is the reasoning behind this? I can’t think of a reason that this would even be brought up in CBA negotiations

Wasn't Bob Cousy the last player-coach in the NBA?

Dave Cowens was the last player-coach in 1979 but idk if he was the head coach.
I also didn’t know that Bob Pettit was a player-coach for one year in ‘62

Ahh that makes sense

Oh ok. I was just going off of the Wikipedia article on player-coaches. I could quite possibly be the most NBA ignorant person you’ve ever spoken to so don’t trust me for shite

Ha. I was basing mine on remembering Marc Albert mentioning it during a broadcast when I was a kid, so I could be wrong. *looks it up*
