Rangers closer Will Smith became the 1st player in MLB history to win 3 back to back World Series…on 3 different teams. He was with the Braves in 2021 when they beat Houston, in 2022, he was traded to Houston mid season, who beat the Phillies for World Series #2, and this offseason, he signed with the Rangers, where he led the team in saves, helping them defeat Arizona for World Series #3

So impressive. I think I heard earlier on radio he's also the only player of the 4 major sports to win three straight titles w three different teams.

As a Braves fan, I hated that guy until his miraculous turnaround in the 2021 post season.

That's some amazing luck. Good for him.

That’s going to be a fun trivia question one day.

HOnest question- why does he keep getting traded? I know he doesn't possess magical powers that bring a WS to his employer, but you'd think the guy is obviously good enough to hang around for 2 seasons at a time. Does he suck in the regular season but turn it on in the playoffs?

He hasn’t pitched much the last month. Bochy found a bullpen and rode with it.

Love obscure stats like this

NHL semi-related stats with finals teams:

Marian Hossa lost two consecutive Stanley Cup Finals on two different teams (lost on Pit v Det 08, lost on Det v Pit 09) before winning in his third consecutive trip on third different team (Chicago '10)

Pat Maroon won three consecutive finals but only with two different teams (St Louis 19, TB 20-21) before losing in his fourth consecutive finals appearance

The Braves signed him to a bad 3-year contract ($13M per year). He was incredible in the 2021 postseason, but average or bad during the majority of his time here.

The 2022 season started and he was sucking again so the Braves were happy to offload his contract to the Astros. He didn’t pitch in the 2022 postseason.

In 2023 the Rangers signed him to a one year, $1.5M deal, which is crazy cheap for a veteran closer. Teams just don’t want him, because he’s usually just not good. Even this year he gave up 4 ER over 3.1 IP in the postseason

So in reality, other than his insane 2021 performance, the dude is just not very good and this accomplishment is mostly luck.
