unlike the NHL, the NBA isn't on cable its on ABC

You think most people replacing the dying off older cable subscribers are gonna bother hooking up an HD antenna?

Its all just TV to 95% of the population

Im pretty sure ESPN3 numbers arent included in the overnight numbers. You still need a subscription to access that anyway. I use directv. Directv has lost 13 million subscribers in the last eight years.

TV ratings are never coming back.

The ratings are down, not as much as NHL ratings were down but still the lowest since 2020.

That was also the bubble finals and was the lowest rated in finals history. This one is the second lowest in finals history at the moment. It's been an entertaining series though. Just two small market teams

Idk, but it they are incredibly easy to install and are cheap. I have one specifically to watch sports on the major networks

I doubt it. They drag this out way too long. The playoffs started two months ago in the middle of April with the play-in games. That’s ridiculous. And three days between games in the Finals? You can’t hold people’s attention in this day and age like that.

Having game 5 on Monday night, rather than Father's Day Sunday was pretty mind blowing to me.

What Stern did to the Sonics and Seattle is evil. He is burning in hell as we speak. OKC should never be a major pro sports market. They were dead last in NBA attendance two seasons ago.

I was a Sonics fan as a kid so I'm with you about moving Seattle. He should have been tarred and feathered for that. I can't wait for them to get a team again.

But that it pretty misleading. It was their only time ever being last in attendance and their time in OKC (they were the 10 seed so not a great team) and they've have averaged more in attendance than Seattle did in the years leading up to them leaving. Seattle had been bottom 10 in attendance for a long time. Thunder have hovered around 11-13 in attendance while in OKC which is actually pretty impressive for a non traditional/small market team. Even higher if you factor in % of stadium filled.

Small markets + tv ratings being down across all sports/tv in general besides nfl and its no surprise. The lowest in history talk is just overstated IMO, it's really similar in views to 2021 finals between Suns and Bucks.

Game 1
2021: 8.56 Million
2025: 8.91 Million

Game 2
2021: 9.38M
2025: 8.76M

Game 3
2021: 9.02M
2025: 9.19M

Game 4
2021:10.25M
2025: 9.4M

Game 5
2021: 9.55M
2025: 9.54M

Game 6
2021: 12.52M
2025: Unreleased

Last night was a snoozer but i could see game 7 this year doing 12M

for comparison, the 1993 NBA playoffs were April 29–June 20. The finals that year went six games.

Fair. But 1993 was a different world. No internet, Netflix, etc. What worked then isn’t going to work now when people have so many more options of how/what to watch.

Also round 1 was best of 5.

They still had a 3 day break between games 3 and 4 in 1993

I would think moving it up an hour or two would give it the best chance for overall best ratings.

wouldn't 6:30 pm on the east coast be better than 8pm?

These games aren't as long as NFL games but just move it all back a bit and I think you still get the west coast plenty on the weekend

Doubt it…. If OKC gets up big, no one will care to watch. Last night was brutal. Down 30 going into the 4th quarter okc showed they wanted to win at home. Anyone who thought this wasn’t going 7 was blind to needing maximum tv ratings.

Pro sports are really falling by the wayside.. except the NFL. However the money these guys make is outrageous. And I believe that turns people off. The NBA overall Product is just awful. The NHL doesn’t get the draw it should but America just isn’t into hockey. Plus there is just so much other shite to do nowadays compared to 25 years ago.

Yep. We will continue getting these ratings down threads for years to come. Especially when the youtube generations take over the entire 18-30 year old male demographic

Had the NBA not rigged game four, the Pacers would have won last night. Thus the reason many quit watching this joke of a league decades ago when the ref came out told anyone with eyes and ears what they were seeing was real.

I watched the entire Stanley Cup Finals and I am not a fan of either team. I won't watch a second of a game seven final in the WWENBA. You already know OKC is going to win no matter what.

There’s too many blowouts. At least 2 of the 6 finals games have been blowouts.
