Will Brees go down as the greatest?

At his current pace, with 1 or 2 more superbowl wins and 6-7 more years in the league, he'll go down as arguably the greatest ever. He doesn't have a dominant defense and carries the team like no other.

I'm a HUGE saints fan, and I'm going to say no. He'll be considered elite, but not in the conversation for GOAT unless he gets at least 3 rings.

No. Love the guy, but no.

Maybe if he was currently 26 or 27, but I don't think he can do enough in his remaining years to earn that kind of praise.

If he had only broken marinos yards record :banghead
Because eventually he will break the td record.
ANd then he will win a few more superbowls and have like every record.

If his next five years are similar in production to the last five years he will be considered one of them.
Without the Super Bowl win I think he might have been considered more in the Warren Moon and Dan Fouts category (both Hall of Famers but IMO generally considered guys who put up big yards without being able to get it done in the playoffs)

with 2 more rings and 6 seasons of current production, maybe...

Well if he ends up with 3 super bowls and has a few more record breaking seasons, then yeah, he'll definitely have an argument...but that's easier said than done...but as of now, I'd have to say no.

once Peyton won one people thought the Colts would start winning them right and left. He's 0-3 with 2 opening round losses.
It's tough to win it all. Saints may not do it again for a long long time.

This, its kind of crazy that some of you think the Saints will turn into a dynasty. The NFL doesn't work that way.

They may not win more. You can say that about any great team. They also won it with holes. If they close the holes, the nucleus is there for several more runs. The biggest hurdle eas changing the culture, and that's done.
As for brees, I think if he stays healthy, he's got a better shot at goat than some here are giving him credit for. Extrapolate his numbers out over 6-7 more years, and factor in that there's no jerry rice or walter payton on this team. He's been putting up the best numbers in the nfl for a couple years. He just had one of the best playoffs ever statistically and won a ring. With more time and another superbowl or two, he's gonna be right there.

It does if you're able to regularly hit on cheap talent. The Saints roster is littered with it. As long as they keep up the same level of player evaluation/acquisition they will have a shot at being a dynasty.

Peyton is easily the best in the league at finding offensive talent. Keep payton, brees and a good dc and they'll be back

Idle curiosity made me look up his career numbers and a couple other QBs:
Brees
30,600ish passing yards
202 TDs
110 Ints
Peyton Manning
50,100ish yards
366 TDs
181 Ints
Brett Favre
69,300ish passing yards
497 Tds
317 Ints
Dan Marino
61,361 yards
420 TDs
252 Ints
Joe Montana
40,551 yards
273 Tds
139 Ints
So if you're just a numbers guy I'd say you're going to like either Favre or where Peyton Manning will likely end up (probably comfortably passing Favre over the next five years)
If Brees were to average 4,500 yards and 25 tds over the next five years he'll still lag way behind the Favre/Marino territory and will be around where Manning presently is (in the raw numbers categories)... but if he were to lead the Saints to another Super Bowl win? Pretty rare territory indeed... esp with the total numbers he could finish with

Thanks for the numbers. Brees is playing at a much higher, much more efficient level with the saints, so those numbers in 5 years will look a lot better. His numbers are going to be about quality moreso than quantity. He'll end up with the hightest career passer rating. He also got better in the playoffs and especially the superbowl, which counts more in these discussions than career yards. He just has to keep it up.

Yea if you take any QB in the league and in one of the best years of their careers say if they do that for 6 or 7 more years and win 2 more Super bowls, anyone could go down as the greatest of all time.
Realistically he has a chance to crack a bunch of people's top 10's
