These guys were rocking it in the early 2000's.
What is your theory on their decline?
- no Tops $ ?
- tough academics ?
- recruiting ?
- Rick Jones does not GAF ?

Didn't we just do this a few days ago?

This is at least the 20th time I've seen this one.

Among other things:
-Skyrocketing tuition
-Too many committed players signing MLB contracts before enrolling
-New transfer rules
College baseball is very tricky now, especially at high-tuition schools. Rice is the last private school to win the NC and that was 11 years ago.

It's a tough question hard to really say for sure why they have fallen so far.
Tuition costs going up has hurt, losing almost an entire recruiting class to the draft hurt. They had really good assistant coaches when they were good. Jim Schlossnagle, Brian Cleary, Mark Kingston etc. I think the biggest thing is they haven't replaced those guys. They finally got a highly rated recruiting class this year, but still they look awful. Hitting coach is a big problem right now, IMO.

I was surprised to see how many guys y'all had hitting below or right around .200
Posted on 4/2/14 at 4:35 pm to hendersonshands
It's insane, team batting average around .230
They have a couple of guys with close to 20 at-bats and 0 hits. Two other guys starting in the OF lately are at like .150 and .100

Tons of talent in this state that goes to Southeastern, LSU, Delgado, LSU-E, ULL etc.
Jones has missed badly on recruiting and the assistant coaches are jokes.

Why did you disappear last night? We had some questions for you.
ETA: Tulane has always done a lot of out of state recruiting. Bogusevic, Emaus, Gautreau, Jurries, Sutter etc. A lot of kids in La cant afford Tulane.

All of this.

I think Sutter is at least a decent pitching coach they're not doing well this year, but they've been good under him. Gautreau seems to be pretty bad as a hitting coach though.

I thought I heard something about them closing one of the colleges within the university that most of the athletes were in. They didn't have to meet the same academic standards to be admitted into that college, or something along those lines.
Not sure if there was any truth to it or nor

Tulane went to Omaha in 2001 and 2005.
LSU won the national title in 2000 and went to Omaha in 2003 and 2004.
So LSU was certainly good during Tulane's peak.
It was more of Louisiana baseball was king. LSU being THE program in the 90s helped recruiting throughout the state of Louisiana. Even ULL went to Omaha in 2000. The early 2000s was tops in LA.
Now for post-Katrina Tulane.. They completely de-emphasized athletics for a while. It's hard to win with no support from the school.
Plus Jones is probably just mailing it in now.
