Why is there a difference in reaction to sports brawls?

Anyone ever notice how when some sports have a brawl during the game, the reaction to the brawls are blatantly different depending on the sport?
I've been hearing and reading about the outrage about the fight between the Cincy and Xavier players. Pat Forde wrote a scathing article about how the teams disgraced their city.
Just two nights ago, I saw a fight during a hockey game on SportsCenter. The fans were cheering the fight on, the anchors on SC were in laugh mode. The fight eventually ended when one player finally hit the ice with a bloody face....no outrage from the public.
I see baseball brawls all the time, they're always greeted with laughter on the evening news. Nobody is outraged, nobody is called thugs, and no articles are written on how the players were a disgrace to the city.
This is just weird to me

If you don't understand this, then there is no hope for you as a sports fan.

Baseball "fights" are usually just pushing and shoving. No real punches or kicks landed. Not to mention the team doesn't come out after the game and say how gangster they are.

Well help me understand almighty sports fan on why in hockey, it's perfectly ok for players to punch each other faces in but when the same exact thing happens in CBB , it's not ok.
What was the difference between the fight in hockey and the fight in the Cincy, Xavier game?

Ha, I've seen all out brawls in baseball, punches thrown just like the Xavier, Cincy game. Absolutely no outrage and when it's reported on the news the anchors are always laughing about it.

Fighting in hockey is one of the reasons I hate the sport, but it is accepted.
I think fights are funny. I love seeing them on TV. Never been outraged y a fight. Of course neither of those teams are my teams.

The culture of hockey says its ok to scrap.
The culture of basketball says its not ok to scrap.
You can't tell the difference?

Because fighting is accepted in hockey. It's part of the game.

Umm, yea. I know there's a difference, read my thread title. "Why is there a difference in reaction to sports brawls"
My question is why is it perfectly acceptable for hockey, baseball players to have fights with zero outrage.
There are people calling for the players to be suspended for the rest of the year, those same people have no problem with other sports having brawls.

He answered it. Culture.

This. they can fight up until someone goes down on the ice. It's not an "accepted" part of any other sport. Plus it's harder to get a huge hit on someone while standing/slipping on ice. If you can get a strong base on a court/field and land a big punch, you'd see people getting knocked the frick out all the time.

Because one of the players came out and said they were gangsters after the game.

Fighting is part of the game in hockey.
Are you going to ask why you can punch in MMA? I didn't set up the structure of the game, I don't know why but you can fight in hockey and its acceptable.

Why is it ok for managers to get up in the umps' face....yell, spit, and scream? If you even look at a ref wrong in the nba you'll get T'ed up

And I blame it on Rudy T's glass jaw for creating this double standard
I kid

I'm talking about the reaction/outrage from the public regarding the fighting.
Do you not think it's hypocritical for the public to cheer fighting in one sport but jeer it in another sport? Fighting is fighting, if you hate people fighting in one sport how can you cheer it in another sport?

Well when blacks fight amongst each other in sports, it's just the thug culture of hip hop and everything wrong with it.
When whites do fight in sports, it's just in the name of the game.
That's really want it broils down. Hate to race bait.

Why aren't you calling out the Cinci/Xavier players for calling themselves thugs/gangters or is thug/gangster the new Nword?

There's 2 different types of fighting in hockey. 1 is staged fights. I hate those. They are guys just fighting for the heck of it. The other type is in order to protect players. I feel like this type of fighting is needed. Hockey players move much faster than in any other sport and can hurt other players more easily. Without fighting, more players would be hurt. A 4minute penalty for hitting someone in the face with a stick isn't going to stop it from happening. Knowing that you will have fight someone after you do it does prevent it from happening more often.

I think we have a winner and there's absolutely nothing nobody can say to refute what you said due to the drastic difference in the reaction to the fighting.
