The the face value of tickets is outpacing inflation at the same time TV's are being made cheaper and with a better picture.

The sad thing is when we seeing digital commercials logos over the field, actual teams sponsored names instead of Dallas Cowboys it will be Dallas (insert big oil company name), adversitements on jersey, way more commercials and very high cable rates to see games.

its those 3 reasons. for me, the cost is the least concern, as you can usually find last minute tix and i can limit myself to one beer and a snack. The biggest reason i watch at home is the hi def tv and the shitty fan behavior at the game.

is it just me or are the crowds at basketball games much better behaved than at football or baseball games?

Cost of tickets drove me to TV.

Drop 100 bucks on a ticket, pay 40 dollars for parking, 10 dollars a beer and 6 bucks for a hot dog...per game

versus

Saddling up to my couch, having my wife cook dinner and drinking beer out of the fridge.

lots of good answers in this thread.

Also, so many more games are on TV it's much easier now to follow your team from the comfort of your own house, and watch all the other games, too.

I love LSU football, but I'm sure there will be more entertaining games to watch in 2014 than spending a lot of time/money on campus watching the Tigers pound Sam Houston St, UL-Monroe, and New Mexico State in person

it is because of the internet

we are more accustomed to lack of direct social interaction, so not as big of a deal to enjoy large crowds

I don't like that the games sell out on Ticketmaster 5 minutes after they go on sale, and an hour later there are thousands of tickets on stubhub at triple the face value.

Screw that system--I'm staying home.

This is something that I have somewhat considered. People are afraid to be in public without hiding behind their keyboard.

I understand this thought, but some people say that it is because they can't afford to go to a game. Those are games that tickets can be found below face value and give those people the opportunity to actually go to a game. They choose not to go with the excuse that it isn't Bama, Fla, Auburn or the like.

I have also seen the discussion with NASCAR. People say they can't afford to go to race because it is too expensive. Many tracks offer packages that are extremely reasonable. When you can get four tickets for less than $100 and there is no charge for parking and you can bring your own food and drink into the track, I don't understand how the cost can be considered part of their decision.

For me it isn't the price at all. I actually like that the price of beer is getting more expensive at games as well. Too many people get unruly and drunk at games and they can cause issues.

I go to maybe two football games a season because I would rather watch at the house and catch every game on tv or most.

I'd say it has more to do with the "rules" that exist now surrounding games as well.

The list of things you can't bring into an NFL game, and the bags you can have with you are worse than the TSA restrictions.

Combined with the overzealous police presence now...

Sad to say, but being a LSU alum and fan, I haven't been to a LSU football game in 4 years and live 50 miles west of Baton Rouge. Its really not worth it anymore. Traffic, cost of alcohol and food. Dealing with dumb asses. I rather have all my friends come over and watch it on the big screen.

This is true. I don't live in louisiana but at the moment the only thing I would make the effort to attend is a Pirates game in the afternoon or a Penguins game. Both are pretty relaxing and fun.

Most fun I had this year was for the Arkansas game. I was home visiting and asked my Dad if he wanted to take the 35 minute ride to my house in BR, check on things and then go to the game. We ended up listening to the game on his boat jigging for sac a lait. IT was better than dealing with traffic. Watched the 4th quarter from a bar on the way home.

Price of going to the game. Tickets, gas, lodging, food.

vs

The widespread availability to watch most games in HD from the comfort of your living room.
