300-400$ just for tickets. Add in food, travel, and drinks if I choose to have more than 1 and it's easily 5-600$ for me and my two boys to go to a nfl game.
I hate baseball but it's about the same for that.
Arizona Basketball has been sold out for 20+ years. Mostly attended by life long season ticket holders. $30/ seat for upper level means I might go to A game. Arizona Football is about the only game I take them too. It's a dry campus(no alcohol) so I don't spend money on drinks.

Major league sports are not for families anymore. Stadiums are filled with drunk aggressive obnoxious fans. Concessions are expensive too. All that together means IF I go to a game it's usually solo with my friends and maybe 1-2 proffesional events a year.

I agree with all the reasons in this thread, but this one is a big one for me.

Expensive tickets, long lines, traffic clusterfricks, flasks in your crotch, poor viewing (as compared to TV), dealing with humanity and all its stupidness, stinking shitters, arse raping concessions, inclement weather, yada, yada, yada.

It's still fun to watch a game live. But it's no wonder more and more people are opting to view it from the couch and forego the above headaches.

different reasons, mine include comfort of own home with large tv, all i can eat food, private always available toilet, non $9 beer, not dealing with a load of idiots and traffic and parking and missing other big games on tv that day for traveling. Just becomes more of a hassle to go.

i used to go to several games a year. Get alot of free tickets through my wirk and my dads. Here are the tickets i either sold or gave away this year, i didnt go to a single game.

I disagree. I heard a guy complaining about the Texans not putting that info on the field when he was at the game.

Some fans do not understand football.

Between costs for tickets, parking, concessions it's a lot cheaper on the family to stay home and watch it with a big party at the house.

It's the one thing professional and college sports have to take into account - the average fan or the true fan with his family made it an event. Now they are pricing out that family for the corporate dollar but when push comes to shove that is not a loyal fan base and they only go when it's convenient for them.

More sports are having trouble filling the venues completely for events.
once ticket prices and the secondary market starts trying to compete with LED TV's, attendance will go back up.

Cost versus benefit is wildly in TV's favor at the moment

Honestly, money...the last time we went to a Rockets game it cost me ~$500 between tickets, hotel, and concessions. Granted, I can't just commute back home after a game in Houston, but even that was only about a quarter of it.

This is part of the reason I like going to RR Express games...much cheaper, great seats, better crowd.

I only go to games now for the experience and the fellowship.. Actually watching the game has been reduced for me due to Hd TV. As soon as my kids are a bit older, I will begin my track around the country to different venues for the same reasons.. Because simply, if I want to watch a game, actually watch(akin to last night) TV just offers a better product...

I would say that he's an isolated dumbass... but really human stupidity is rampant so he's probably not.

I think that's a very very small reason though, compared to others listed.

I enjoy going to LSU basketball games more than football games. Cheaper, easier to get in and out of campus, games aren't always on TV...

65" TV, dinner, and a lack of drunk idiots is hard to beat. Although I'd pay anything to be at the Rose Bowl when ASU makes it...

The older I get the less I like crowds, I'm happy watching a game at the hunting camp with a few friends.

65" TV for 1 time investment of $1000 to last one year VERSUS paying thousands each year for tickets.

Free parking in my driveway versus $20-$50 PER GAME at the venue.

24 pack beer $15-35 bucks versus $9.00 for 8 oz of beer

Wait in line for 30 minutes to piss VERSUS pissing whenever I damn well please.

That's why. It's a pretty easy choice.

Good Lord, my bad then. I've never in my life encountered something like that at an actual game. That guy doesn't need to be going to games in the first place

Attendance has been fine in baseball

It was the highest it has ever been just a couple years ago.

Because baseball tickets are really affordable in comparison to football tickets and the game is so much more enjoyable in person than on t.v.

Pretty simple. Perfect angle for every single play with multiple replays via high def TV.

I can stay in my warm house and watch games in hi def and not pay hundreds for tickets, parking, food, etc...at home I have my own snacks, beer, bathroom, and I don't need to deal with drunk a-holes and crowds.

Depending on the sport I'll do a game or two per season just for the experience, but staying at home is a far better option, especially if you want to go with your family. The cost adds up quickly and is not worth it IMO

MLB had a paid attendance this year of 74,026,895, the sixth highest attendance of all time.

Big difference between paid attendance and actual attendance. The Astros had a lot more paid attendance than actual attendance.
