re: why is the western conference in the NBA habitually better than the east?

a little of it has to do with a more competitive environment creates strong teams... especially in terms of physical, front-court play.
But things will always even out... the east could easily go on a run over the next decade, with James and Rose anchoring strong eastern conference teams. Plus, the nets and knicks will spend what it takes to be competitive... over time, a more competitive east (top to bottom) will create better basketball.

i definitely lean this way. in the west, you better win 50 games if you want to a ticket to the 2nd season. in the east, "just win as many as you lose"
You can see why many Grizzlies fans wish we were in the East

true... but they'll be more tested and prepared.
If memphis makes it through LAC, OKC, and Spurs to reach the finals... that's way more difficult than Bucks, Bulls(minus everybody), and the Pacers.

Bc there hasn't been a legitimate post threat in that entire time period.

Dwight Howard and Shaq aren't legitimate post threats?

The NFC won the super bowl for like 17 straight years at one point. Eventually the pendulum will swing back and has already done so a little bit.

Because nobody wants to be worse than the hornets and the hornets (now pelicans) are pushing the envelope every year. Pels city bitch

Haven't you heard? Ever since Marc Gasol emerged this postseason, Dwight has become, at best, a role player who is the most overrated player in the NBA (according to the MSB).

I'm not saying they weren't really good players, but neither was a guy that could dominate the game from below the FT line.
Dwight in Orlando was the league's best pick and roll center. But he lacked a dominant post game. He didn't (and still doesn't) have a go-to move.
Shaq in Miami was dominant that first year. They probably make the Finals if Wade doesn't get hurt and had to miss game 6 of the ECF. But after that first year, it became Wade's team and Shaq was the second option.
What I meant in my first post was that the East didn't have post threats that killed you whether you double-teamed them or not. Lakers Shaq, Tim Duncan, Dirk - those are all guys that were damn near unstoppable one on one, but they were able to spot open cutters and shooters if you doubled them.
That's what the East lacked. Most of the East's best players since 2000 have been perimeter oriented players. Iverson, Kidd, Carter, Lebron, etc.
