You can say that about any offense. It's not a flaw with the run and shoot, as many of the detractors try to make it out to be. Rather, it's the fact that if you have a versatile and aggressive defense, it doesn't matter what the offense is. The bottom line is that run and shoot offenses did their job. They put points on the board and racked up yards. Oh, and during the game where Houston's defense collapsed, they had a nine minute drive in the second half. Yes, there is ball control in the run and shoot, so that argument is shot to hell.

spread option
each 3 is different and very few teams run a real spread option right now
And the run and shoot, which is NOT the spread offense.

I saw highlights of the OTAs from Oakland and they had plays with McFadden lined up at QB in a formatioin similar to the "Wildcat" formation at Arkansas. It would be interesting to see some of those schemes run in the pros. Vick did something similar a few years back, but the Falcons were still hesitant to let Vick keep the ball very often. I think with a player like McFadden playing the QB spot, it would truly be more of an option with the potential for the "QB" to keep the ball.

Going back to the original question (though I do agree the run and shoot worked), the spread isn't in the NFL for the two obvious reasons.
ONE. the conservative nature of the NFL. It is better to lose in the accepted ways than to risk winning in a novel way, because when you lose, you are open to far more criticism. Sort of like statistically speaking, a team should almost always go for it on fourth except deep in their own territory and on very long 4ths, but no one is dumb enough to risk their job on that.
TWO. QB's get paid way too much money to take that sort of beating. It's not worht the risk on a team's investment.
