Fans of the nfl are gonna watch the nfl over anything else.
Why not make it Saturday night nfl game of the week instead?
Or Friday
That gives teams a similar rest schedule

Saturday? During college football? You’re joking, right?

High School dominates Fridays
College dominates Saturdays

I like Thursday Night football. If the NFL had any balls they would have Friday night games instead. People will still go to high school football games on Friday when it's your hometown and school. Do you really believe that people in Ohio and Texas will not go to high school football when Seattle is playing Nashville?

That’s the point. Ratings would be awful

Because a Saturday night game (at least until the NCAA regular season is over) is a lot less valuable for the TV rights since it’ll be going head to head against the best college games of the weekend. And you’d have fewer bidders for rights to a Saturday night game since networks are locked into long term deals with college conferences already.

The NFL doesn’t care. If CFB doesn’t start scheduling better games on the 1st and 3rd weeks of the year, then the NFL would have no problem scheduling a game or two on Saturdays early in the season.

I think you’re wrong. I think NFL and CFB have an agreement not to schedule against each other.

money. the answer is money. if they play nfl on Saturday, then they're competing with themselves or attracting college football to play on Sunday. $$$$. The powers that be don't give a shite about rest or injuries.

Lol no. The NFL would own Friday night if they can get the scheduling to work out.

Some of you may not know, but 15-20 years ago Thursday Night College football games on ESPN was wildly popular. It was mainly a chance for smaller school to be seen. Greedy NFL moved in on that time slot of course.

The NFL cannot schedule games on Friday and Saturday while HS and CFB is being played. Would violate the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961.

Isn’t the NFL required to not play on college football saturdays to keep their anti trust exemption?

Friday nights are terrible for ratings. Start of the weekend, people out and about. Particularly the NFLs target audience
