wins and losses dont seem to matter, its the advertising market potential
That's the same with all sports.

You really don't see how a guy like Michael Redd getting a $90 million guaranteed contract is causing a problem?

Too many foreign born players imo.

To a degree, perhaps. It's probably more pronounced in the NBA, though, than say the NFL.

Don't know about that. The Redskins are the second most valuable team in football and haven't won shite for 20 years

hell half the teams in the league make it to the playoffs. The regular season is a joke.

Salaries are too high, which makes ticket prices too high. I like NBA basketball, but not enough to spend $300 on tickets. I'd rather watch from home than sit in the upper deck and the lower bowl tickets are at least $300 for a pair.

Not an expert, but I'll take a shot.
1) Overpaying and hard caps:
Too many non-star/not good players getting big contracts and teams being stuck with those players make for sinking a team and not giving a team hope for the next few years.
2) Overselling of stars:
In the 90's, you had players like Jordan, Bird and Magic as the face of the NBA because of Gatoraid and Nike/Converse. Now it's Kobe, Durant, LeBron, Wade, Dwight Howard, My Cousin, John Wall, His Brother, Gilbert Arenas, Derick Rose and the guy who watches his dog who all have commercials and shoes and everything else. Stop it already!
2i) Stop letting star players get away with calls. Kobe gets three/four steps while others get two.
3) NBA and college basketball:
I like college basketball and follow LSU, but I have no real attachment to A. Randolph. I'll watch him a little, but don't ever really look for him. I do enjoy watching Glenn Davis and Tyrus Thomas who were at LSU for a while. The NBA needs to do like baseball. If you are drafted by the NBA out of highschool, you can go pro. If not, or if you choose not to go pro, you stay in college for three years before you are eligible to go pro again. It brings college fans back to the NBA and makes the college game better.
4) Watered down teams:
There really are too many teams. Get rid of two or four teams and bring the talent level of the NBA back up.
5) the Playoffs:
There are too many games. Eliminate one playoff spot per conference and give the team with the best record a bye. The first round doesn't need to be a best of seven. Make it a best of five and it will be more interesting.
IMO IMHO

Charlotte is 19-25 and in the 8th spot right now in the Eastern Conference.

The NBA used to do this but they did away with it because there were to many players entering the NBA when they weren't ready to play against guys bigger and stronger then they were accustomed to in highschool.

I agree with this completely...there are several teams in this league without a legitimate star and no one worth fans spending money to watch in person.

I think they are going to be on the move...KC or Vegas.
KC or Anaheim. Vegas is not really an option for the NBA right now, after the All-Star game disaster and Vegas economy in the tank

I think you hit it head on.
Peja Stojakovic, Andrei Kirilenko, Elton Brand, Rashard Lewis, Baron Davis, Hedo Turkoglu.
These guys are above average NBAers but not stars.
I'd be all for this as well. No team with a below .500 record should be in contention for the playoffs.
I don't think this will ever happen, but it probably needs too.

The new rules had little to do with the NBA and more to do with the players union. Vets were losing jobs to high school kids who had nothing but potential in their corner.

Meh, I only watch playoff basketball, because teams actually start really playing defense.

Are you saying that if teams were successful in selling out stadiums, boxes and selling merch that the contracts are so outrageous they'd still be losing money?
i don't believe that many teams are losing money
but for small market teams like the hornets? yes. they were struggling when they were selling out during our big run a few years ago

Face it, the NBA is losing because of its fading popularity.
which popularity?
the NBA finals had some epic ratings for some games last year
