Why don't more schools run the Wishbone?

ESPN article on the 50th anniversary of the Wishbone
The Kahlil Tate thread got me thinking. Why wouldn't lowly programs give this a shot? Not necessarily the wishbone, but some form of it to incorporate the triple option. Couldn't be any worse than what they're already doing.
Thinking of programs like Kansas, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, etc. Especially if you were the only one in conference doing it.

Idk about lowly programs, but watching the wishbone is akin to the excitement level of watching water boil.

So if you're a Kansas fan, whats more exciting? 0-12 with the spread or 6-6 with the 'bone?

You kind of still see it. You can run the triple option out of the spread, which is preferable because it doesn’t negate your ability to throw downfield like the wishbone (for example) would.

The spread isn't new or innovative anymore, so teams are used to defending it. And it becomes easy to defend talentless offenses. Teams don't defend the true triple option well in 2018.

linebackers are too fast now....

Can’t keep up with big 12 offenses running wishbone

It’s not like college kids have never seen the wishbone in HS or youth football. I’m not sure you’re gonna catch a lot of people off guard with it.
And if a team doesn’t have enough talent for the spread, should we really assume that they’ll have enough depth at RB, FB and TE to run the bone?

Are they disciplined though?

a wishbone with a very good quick TE ( + depth) would control the clock and move the ball vs todays D's

Explain Navy's success with it.
The reason a Kansas can't succeed with today's offense is OL and QB, not RB and TE. FBs and blocking TEs are a dime a dozen. The bone allows you to have a good OL with sparse recruiting. And it's easier for a school like Kansas to find a successful option QB than a traditional one.

Navy has always run an option heavy offense. Their most recent success has more to do with Niumatalolo than the offense. They were pretty terrible before him with essentially the same offense.
Paul Johnson brought the triple option to GA Tech and he hasn’t been much more successful than before when they ran more of a pro style offense (or whatever they were running).

It just seems like conceding that you can’t get talent to me. Once upon a time, UCF would have probably fallen into this category of teams that you believe should entertain the wishbone.

Wishbone and later the midline option were a thing of beauty when run correctly and the right personnel.

Couldn’t disagree more. Would rather watch a wish bone team impose their will on an opponent than two teams flag football it up and down the field 60-55

Of course I'm conceding these schools can't get talent. That's exactly the point dude!
And are you comparing UCF's situation to a Kansas? Hint, ones in Florida and ones in Kansas. See the difference?

Who would do that?
You’d have to be a coach with a death wish to make that concession. And you’d have to be a loser administration to let him.

And Mizzou is in Missouri. And the Hawkeyes play in Iowa. They’re not powerhouses but they’re not conceding that they’ll never be able to get talent either.

Wtf are you talking about? The whole reason to even run it is because you're at a talent disadvantage.
