Why doesn't the NFL schedule more rivalry games at certain times to create traditions?

Other than the Thanksgiving Detroit and Dallas playing random teams on Thanksgiving the NFL really doesn't follow any traditional type scheduling like college schedules are.
I'd think the NFL could benefit by saving key rival games for late in the season.
Imagine always the Dallas Washington game at the end of the year to determine a playoff spot?
The Saints Falcons for the same? Etc.
I think it would help bolster the rivalries.
And yes. I realize division opponents play each other twice a season. And the schedules wouldn't allow say a New Orleans- Houston game every season.
I just think rivalries would intensify if we had them knocking each other out of the playoffs if they played at the end.
And also, I think there should be key games played at certain times every year around local events, such as the Red River rivalry played around the Texas State Fair.

Last two weeks of the season are heavily divisional games

I’m just glad I was busy and forgot to bet on this Detroit game.

Because they don't need to.
Most rivalries are in division and they do schedule those late in the season

I still think the 17th game should've been a permanent cross-conference game, and every 4 seasons the two teams play twice. Cowboys/Texans, Jets/Giants, Steelers/Eagles, etc. Most NFL teams have a natural cross-conference rivalry that could be played annually, with really only a handful of oddball matchups that have to be forced due to being the odd geographic teams out.

Has the NFL stopped the tradition of rigging game outcomes yet?
Let me know when that tradition ends
