Why stop at Louisiana? Why not United States University? It sounds more impressive than UL and that's what this is about, impressing people outside Louisiana.
Fact, almost all of the students at ULL come from within 75 miles of the university. It is a regional college. They thought USL was too confining and fought for the name UL. So now they have a even more confining name that is tied to the city of Lafayette. Should have stuck with USL, a name with a broader fan base. All the cities outside of Lafayette are huge LSU supporters ( New Iberia, Opelousas, Crowley, ect)

there are 8 schools in th louisiana university school system. ull is just one of them. i think they have a short mans complex at ull wanting to be called the university of louisiana. ain't gonna happen don't insult the other 7 schools.

Isn't UL Lafayette the biggest school out of those 8 in the Louisiana University school system? Just because we are in the same system as those schools doesn't mean we are on the same level as those schools. That's like saying LSU A&M is on the same level as LSUE. Either way, you guys keep arguing that we shouldn't be the University of Louisiana. And I never said we should be. Our official school name is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. However ATHLETICALLY they want to be called Louisiana (NOT University of Louisiana) and UL for short. I dont get why people keep using the argument that UL Lafayette shouldn't be the University of Louisiana when that's not even what I'm arguing.

Why not have ULM call themselves UL? After all they have a much more impressive football history than ULL. La Tech has a more impressive football program than ULL, so why not let them be called Louisiana and drop the Tech? If it makes sense for Lafayette, then it make s sense for the better football programs .
Personally I could care less what ULL calls itself. I pulled for them Sat night and am happy they won. I live near Lafayette and just don't understand the LSU hate that comes from Lafayette

Well, thanks for finally boiling this thing down to what this name thing is really all about. ULL is just not happy with its name. OK, I understand.
thanks for the honesty

Lulz nice try. UL Lafayette is not happy being called ULL which is not the official abbreviation of the university. never has been. Those other shools are content with being recognized as their full official name athletically. UL Lafayette is not. Just like LSU A&M@BR. that is LSU's official name. They are not content with using their full name in athletics. Neither is UT(Texas), UT(Tenn.), UA(Arkansas), UNC, OU(Ohio), and the list goes on and on. We are no different.

My masters degree says The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Based on this I go with Louisiana, UL, or ULL.

Replying to official moniker. I'll use the others as abbreviations, although I know Eric Maron wants ULL not to be used.

We all know the official names of each school. Don't understand the butthurt on both sides sbout a silly nickname. ULL,UL,USL all mean the same school. Many schools have more than one nickname.

There is no reason to dislike a school in a different conference that is in no way your rival, who's winning will only further the name of your state as a football powerhouse.

What administration wants means nothing because people will always use whatever name they want.

Go SLI and Louisiana State University Agricultural & Mechanical College!

Btw, I Caught an interview with Jake Delhomme on the Texans pre-game radio show and the reporter said I know you went to UL Lafayette but since you're from Louisiana are you much of an LSU fan? Delhomme says no I can't really say I am, I don't root for them and never have. I know there's not a rule that says everyone from Louisiana has to like LSU, just found his response odd. Example I was rooting like hell for ULL in their bowl game on Saturday night and haven't spent a single day on ULL's campus.

I don't find this to be the least bit odd. I'm from Baton Rouge, I've lived in Louisiana all my life, and at times I have a borderline hatred of the Saints. Sorry, when I was growing up the Saints were a laughing stock and my brother and dad hated them.
