Did it ever come out what assistants it was that he hated and what they did?

Eta:
All I've seen is the text he sent to that Canzano columnist. Where he rips the assistants.

They were talking about it during their game tonight and got me curious.

Had to be something major for him to walk away from all that money. I can't think of any scenario where I could understand him giving up all that money just because he doesnt want to work with his assistants instead of firing them.

I must be missing something.

I mean there’s very little publicly available about what exactly happened and it’s not like people on this board have DALSU sauces at Oregon State. I can’t decide whether he’s a loser quitter or noble enough to admit he wasn’t up to par.

It was a postcard perfect fall day in western Oregon. Sun out, mid 60s, fall color galore and leaves flying off the trees.

Beavs played mighty tough but turnovers cost them big.

I think GA pulled a bit of a Spurrier by walking away. The texts were a bit of a surprise but not surprised at all Canzano published them. Not sure if GA had any clue Canzano would publish them at the time he was texting away. I imagine head coaches say all kinds of stuff off the record.

There were quite a few texts that were published outside of the 3-4 that got played on the airwaves. Sounded like GA had animosity toward some of his coaches that eventually turned to apathy. In his words, he failed at bringing in the right coaches and was going to hold himself accountable instead of cleaning house at the end of the year. GA has always been a unique dude. After Wisconsin and OSU I think it's clear he isn't coaching for the money

I wouldn't be surprised to see GA end back up at University of Utah as the DC. His greatest ties are along the Wasatch Front, and he was the head coach at Park City High School.

Sounds like he's just not up to being a head coach. Couldn't hack it at UW despite putting up some decent seasons, and screwing it up even worse than it was in Corvallis...may be time to go the coordinator route.

I agree. This guy just doesn't seem to have the mental makeup to be a head coach.

I've always thought he'd end up back in Utah. Just hoped it would be after a *successful* stint in Corvallis.

He left 12.6 on the table million. That's pretty amazing, crazy stupid or admirable depending on your view.

Andersen also reiterated that if he didn't believe he could win at Oregon State he would pull the unprecedented move of tearing up his contract and letting the Beavers go free.

Andersen ran off Mike Riley's recruits. He expressed open frustration with his assistant-coach hires. And he grew increasingly discouraged as the results just didn't materialize.
