Except no team in the history of football has ever gone for 2 while up 2. Not once. A kick had already been blocked once in this game alone.

Give me what the probabilities of the following events are, and I'll tell you based on your numbers.

Clemson scoring on the two point conv
Louisville scoring the xp

Which circles back to my original point. Clemson was up by 4 when they scored thier last td. A 5 point lead wins the game with a late FG. But a 4 point lead only ties the game.

So what was the reason they went for 2? Just in case Louisville misses the extra point?

Yes, just in case something that already happened once in the game happened again. Notre Dame blocked 3 kicks earlier in the day. FSU blocked a big XP at the end of the UNC game. Blocked and missed XPs happen in football.

Teams going for 2 while up 2 points does not.

So you are saying that the chances of blocking an second extra point in a game is higher than missing on a 2 point play?

No I'm saying the chance of blocking an extra point is higher than the chance of a team choosing to go for 2 while up 2.

If you up by 4 or 5. The other team has to score a touchdown but in the case they do then it's better to be up by 6 with a chance of them missing the extra point vs being up by 5 and automatically losing... it's not that hard to comprehend.

The chances of blocking a second xp are miniscule, thus should not be factored into the decision.

Late touchdowns often have long PATs because of celebration penalties.

That is not a reason to go for 2 points.

And this is why you are a poster on a message board and not a coach.

I ran some numbers and it's not a no brainer to go for two. Going for two for Clemson (I gave them a 48% of getting the two pt conv) was the better call, but not by much

Knowing our kicking game, if we had scored we would have missed the XP anyways. I have zero faith in that area

Yes but the difference between 4 and 5 is a late field goal will win the game or tie the game. It is better to be in a position to win the game than to simply tie the game. I
