Bama and Texas’ top 4 wins if each win their conference:

Texas:
#8 Bama (Bama would be ranked higher after win over UGA)
#19 Okla St
U/R Kansas State
U/R Kansas

Bama:
#1 UGA (UGA would be ranked lower after loss to Bama)
#11 Ole Miss
#13 LSU
#23 Tennessee

(Rankings based on latest coach’s poll)

Texas’s win over Bama and Bama’s win over UGA would be equal in quality. They cancel each other out.

Then you look at the rest of the big wins, and it’s no contest. Bama would have the better resume.

edit:

More simply put:

Team A: 3 top 15 wins, 1 loss to a one-loss team
Team B: 1 top 15 win, 1 loss to a two-loss team

It’s not even debatable who has the better resume.

Not when it comes to comparing Bama vs Texas.

The whole point of resumes is to provide data on who should be ranked over who. Well, there is no cut-and-dry data point than the two teams playing each other.

Yeah, they’re not buying that

it’s like you guys have never seen a team be ranked higher than a team they lost to before. That happens all the time because rankings aren’t based on one game. Crazy I know.

They have the same record and they played each other. This would be simple

This is an lsu sports board.

Don’t use logic. It doesn’t matter here.

Bama would be a 4.5 favourite over Tejas on a neutral field. It would be a shame if this happens - hopefully UGA takes care of business though.

In that case rank OU above Texas.

Alabama getting in ahead of Texas with the same record delegitimizes the entire sport. It’s intramurals at that point.

See, at the top of their Resume for both....the Committee doesn't have to read past...

Texas 34, Alabama 24

Was that so hard?

This sport and fans sure like to obfuscate, muck up and over-complicate the obvious.

Yeah. And it was on the road. That's really hard to ignore.

Leaving a one loss Big 12 champ out of the playoffs would be a little controversial. Leaving a one loss SEC champ out of the playoffs is what would delegitimize it all.

edit: and you say “same record” as if the Big 12 is on the same level as the SEC.

Nope. You have to use the exact teams here, it matters. It’s Alabama and Texas.

Tennessee has absolutely no business being ranked

There’s no logical explanation why Bama’s loss to Texas matters “more” than Texas’ loss to OU, or why Texas’ win over Bama should matter “more” than a Bama win over UGA.

When it’s between those 2 exact teams, it’s the only thing that matters

LSU beat Wake Forest two out of three in Omaha but Wake Forest had the better season long resume. They should have advanced to the national championship series.
