For the early game blowout. No one will be watching anyway

Agree. There were never blowouts in the CFP until the whiny G5 was given a spot.

Not saying they won't get train wrecked, but this question would be like asking why certain NFL divisions get a guaranteed playoff spot. If they are in the same level of football (FBS) then they shouldn't be eliminated from competition before a single game is played because the rankings are just a beauty pageant.

G5 needs their own playoff

All for it if we make something between FBS and FCS.

What are people going to say if Tech runs the table?

3-1 and averaging 34 points a game when not playing LSU!

This.
Also, people seem to forget that the playoff became a thing in the first place because of programs like Boise State never getting a chance to play for a national champiobship and then playing well/winning their BCS bowl games. It was not to give SEC and B1G teams a third/fourth chance because they’re “better on paper”.

Yep, people like this are the ones who said "Boise State doesn't have a chance against Oklahoma". Then Boise State beats Oklahoma. People like this are the ones who said "TCU will get humiliated by Michigan". Then TCU beats Michigan.

Worse case scenario, it's a blowout and essentially a bye for a higher ranked team. So be it. But they deserve to be in there.

The playoff at 12 though is just dumb. Either move it back to 8 or push it up to 16 with no byes. No team should have a 1st round bye.

They're going to move up to 16 teams.

I think it is and I also think byes are stupid in college.

1st Round
16 teams - 8 home games for top 8 seeds - WOULD BE ELECTRIC to have home playoff games. Would be even more fun if on NYE/NYD

2nd Round
8 teams - 4 games with rotating sites/bowls

3rd Round
4 teams - 2 games. Same as previous round

Final Round
2 teams - 1 game. Rotating championship site, end of January.

That's 7 rotating bowls/sites for the last 3 rounds.
- Sugar
- Rose
- Orange
- Fiesta
- Cotton
- Citrus
- Peach

(just a swag guess, but you get the point)

Selection:

- CFP picks the 16 teams, one guaranteed G5.
- BCS ranks them 1-16
- Note: I'm not sure the appropriate way to handle conference championships in this selection process. Don't want to diminish importance, but also don't feel like a 10-2 team that loses the SEC title should miss out on the playoffs to a 10-2 SEC team that didn't make the game.
