same cry baby bitches who complain when a 3 loss Bama gets in, or an overrated B1G school gets in.

I'd rather see a G5 conference champ than a third or fourth place "P4" team.
This.
Also, people seem to forget that the playoff became a thing in the first place because of programs like Boise State never getting a chance to play for a national champiobship and then playing well/winning their BCS bowl games. It was not to give SEC and B1G teams a third/fourth chance because they’re “better on paper”.

Washington State is the toughest team left on the schedule and North Texas blew them out. Certainly a possibility Tech ends with only one loss.

There should be ZERO guaranteed spots.

Anti trust. At the rate the big ten and sec are pushing, it will be
Sec/ big ten National championship
FBS
FCS

Might as well end all football except the 20 team big ten and 20 team sec. Going to end a lot of kids who have no aspirations of getting to the NFL a college degree.

I think we all want the playoff to be the 12 best teams... if it's 12 sec and big ten, so be it

Why is every conference champ guaranteed a playoff spot in every other NCAA sport?

For the early game blowout. No one will be watching anyway

No, that would be retarded.

I just looked through their remaining schedule and they are favored in every remaining game per ESPN. The closest two are a trip to Delaware and Washington St. The schedule honestly doesn't look much different than Indiana's last year. The thing that could hurt LTU is Memphis sitting there in the AAC. I think even if Memphis drops a game in AAC play and both are at 11-1 that Memphis' win over Arky gives them the edge. Had Arkansas not fumbled the game away then it would have been a fair argument that 2 score loss on the road vs #3 > Home loss to 6th place SEC West.

As it stands now, though, will most likely need Tulane and USF to drop another, and Memphis to drop 2. I think the MWC will take care of itself with Boise, UNLV, Utah St, and Fresno. The MAC and Sun Belt don't look like they will have a team that will make a run unless the other G5 conferences fall back to them. LTU has to finish 11-1 to have a shot though. 10-2 won't do it with the schedule left ahead. Would still need some help, but wouldn't be completely preposterous if the chips fell the right way for them and the defense continues to play how they are and the offense keeps improving.

So being the 5th or 6th place team in conference after going 5-4 in conference play can be playoff worthy?

No. I think once it expands to 16 it should be the 10 conference champions, and 6 at large. Which would mean 10 champs, B1G and SEC second and third, Notre Dame, and 1other at large. Most years that would most likely be a 4th SEC or B1G team. Teams are ranked 1-16, no preference to conference champions. Top 8 get a 'Bye' and the bottom 8 play the first round where you negate some blowouts, hopefully, in what should be compelling matchups. Then 4-8 play the winners of the first round. 1-4 play the winners of the second round. Semi's and then championship. Round 2 will still have some sideways scores but whoever wins the first round games will have a 'playoff win' to hang their hat on.

This. Put the games on campus. It would be better than sending them to bowl games with nobody in the stands

Let's say Tulane runs the table and Ole Miss finishes with three SEC losses. Tulane would get in before a 9-3 rebels team despite getting demolished 45-10 heads up.

The problem here is that if Duke somehow wins 8+ games this year, does that then disqualify the ACC via proxy?

Ole Miss dominated Tulane, but outside of that one H2H data point it doesn't say anything else.

Not completely far fetched. The way the defense is playing totally can run the table.
