Would you please stop using La. taxpayer money to subsidize your athletic program? Thanks.
Every D-1 program in the country except about 10 schools does this, including majority SEC schools. While I wish our program could sustain solely on private donations and revenues, it's just not possible at this point, nor different than 95 percent of other collegiate programs.

They have to win a regional first.

Not mad. The more press Louisiana athletics can get the better for the State. Don't get why we would want to eat our own.

Thing this all boils down to is branding. ULL or UL Lafayette just screams regional university. From my understanding here they want to be make themselves a more national presence and ULL does not accomplish that. I guess they feel if they use UL that it will accomplish that. Problem is the real UL- Louisville is way more established in all sports and for that matter academics than ULL. It's one thing to want a re brand but at least pick something that is not already taken. I the eyes of almost everyone outside of Louisiana, UL is University of Louisville plain and simple.

"No one is ashamed of Lafayette. The city is what makes the school such a great place to attend."
Exactly.....but that is what people hate the most. Besides NOLA, the only place worth living in Louisiana is Lafayette.
The lsu campus is an exception to a gritty, polluted, crime-ridden city that is so terrible half of it wants to separate from the other half.
Being known as Louisiana has nothing to do with not being EXTREMELY proud of the Lafayette area.

And they always serve as a reminder to email your state reps about the illegal use of "Louisiana"

No one is ashamed of Lafayette.

The city is what makes the school such a great place to attend.
quote:No, it doesn't; you only think it does.
Getting away from the city designation helps the school grow outside of just the region.
You're basically admitting that the school is trying to be something that it's not, and that is the sole reason LSU fans give you hell about it. Perception is earned, not assigned.

I'm sure NC State's jimmies are rustled with UNC-Chapel Hill referring to themselves as just North Carolina.

Based on this statement, the only parts of BR you've actually seen are LSU's campus, the 70805 and The Exxon Refinery. Nice.

They're on the verge of becoming a tier one institution in the next 5 years, and they're recognized as a national university according to US News. Why wouldn't they accomplish that?

MSU
UT
USC
Which schools am I referring to? I bet that you would guess wrong.
There's a ton of university brands with the same abbreviations.

LSU fans give hell to everyone not LSU because they have a superiority complex. They have to be better than everyone absolutely no matter what. Which isn't entirely a bad thing but it is the reason LSU fans eat their own

You're really knocking it out of the park with the generalizations in this thread.
