That Texas team had 28 players that started at least one game in the NFL. Half their starting defense made either an NFL pro bowl or all pro team. The frick are you talking about?

As an LSU fan:

Matheiu: might have had a shot without the suspension in 2011 and firmly believe he would’ve won it in 2012

McFadden: made our lives absolutely miserable; it’s criminal he had such bad QB play - Fournette just thinks he had it bad

No Jim Brown?

Definitely Jim Brown.

Dick Schapp said he stopped voting for the Heisman after Brown didn't win it and lost to the Golden boy at Notre Dame who captained his team to a 2-8 record while Brown led Syracuse to a 7-1 record and the Cotton Bowl.

Brown finished 3rd in the nation that year in rushing but Syracuse only played 8 games while everyone else played 10.

It took 5 years after Brown's season for the first black player to win the Heisman.

Revisionist history nonsense.

Texas was ranked #9 in the country in total defense despite taking out their starters in the 3rd quarter and playing in the wide open spread Big12.

And lest we forget they won the title with their defense on a 4th down stop when USC's offense was on fire in the 4th quarter.

Eric Dickerson

He came in 3rd to Walker but was the better player. Dickerson averaged 7.0 yards per carry in 82.All the while splitting carries with Craig James.

Vince Young. The media’s infatuation with USC may have given Reggie the trophy, but Vince carried a team that had no business even playing for a title into the championship game and defeated the media’s “greatest college team of all time”

Just to reiterate, this is the worst take in this thread.

That VY took Fresno State to the title and beat USC by himself. It was fricking Texas, when they were loaded.

He'll, Fresno State almost beat them by outscoring. 42 points for Fresno State, more than Texas scored. USC had no defense. No surprise they they couldn't stop VY late but it was the Texas defense that kept them in the game and won the game.

This VY mythology that he singlehandedly won the game is absurd. One of his TDs was not a TD his knee was down, Reggie Bush fricked USC with his lateral...but like The Drive, everyone only remembers the last score of VY and calling him Superman despite the fact he had the same exact stats as Matt Leinart in the game and a way better defense.

The stats for the game are almost equal if you add in VY passing and rushing to just Leinart's passing despite the fact that USC mostly just ran the ball in the second half. VY had a one of his season low stat games in the Rose Bowls, that's how bad USC's defense was...Fresno State was better on offense against USC than Texas was.

If I were a Texas defender, I'd be pissed that VY gets all the credit. That team was loaded. And the defense won the game...not VY highlight romp into the end zone. Fresno could've done that.

All three were clearly the best players their last year in college football and should have won the Heisman.

Reinvented a football position that always existed

And he is the nicest guy in the world

But no one had a chance to win the trophy at the position

playing the most SEC conference games of anyone ever.

This is a false argument, the SEC in 2020 was not “the SEC” that’s become renowned nationally despite that he played exclusively SEC games that season. Moreover, attempting to argue a statue of a QB who played in the Sarkisian system, never had to make rabbit out of the hat plays because of talent which surrounded him at all levels, and played against a weakened SEC and inferior teams in the Playoff is “the undisputed best QB in the history of college football” might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. Burrow’s light years above Mac and I think Mac will be a terrific pro for the Pats.

Based on what? Every season is its own entity and presents its own set of unique challenges.

Wow just because you’re insecure about last season despite that the only viable SEC teams y’all played were UGA and Texas A&M in an “all SEC schedule,” a Florida team which lost to an inferior LSU team, a clearly overmatched Notre Dame team in the playoff, and a depleted Ohio State team in the title game doesn’t mean you have to get all defensive about y’all’s weak AF schedule. Just accept yall played a weak AF schedule and Mac’s season is overrated. You Gumpers are incorrigible. I actually like Mac and think he’ll be a terrific pro with the Pats so I’ll give y’all that.

Put like this... Bama could have still won the NC last year with their backup QB . There’s no way LSU wins their title without Burrow.
