Both were excellent scorers.

JJ Redick hands down. He was a top 10 ACC player ever. Chapman isn't even one of the 10 best players to play for Kentucky.

Rex and it's not close. He had much more athletic ability. The guy could jump out of the gym and moved like a cat. J J was a poor man's Steve Alfold--a pure shooter who was good off of cuts/screens, but could not create or otherwise score. YouTube some Rex highlights. He was a damn good athlete.

JJ was the all time ACC leading scorer, idiot. He didnt ask who was the more athletic player.

A poor man's steve alford . Yea, one who outscored Alford by a ton in his career

Yea, all that matters in a players career is how athletic they are

Redick has a more impressive resume but that is due in part to Chapman going pro after just two years.

For that same reason 1 and done guys will never be thought of as elite players at the college level. Part of being great is maintaining production over a long period of time.

I'll put in an extremely biased vote for Rex. Rumor has it that Rex subscribed to the philosophy of the darker the berry, the sweeter the juice while in college. And that didn't go over too well with the staff. At all.

Pretty much. If Rex had stayed he could've set similar records IMO.

For the sake of statistical comparisons through the same time frame (sophomore year is when Rex left)

Games Played:
Chapman - 61
Redick - 70

Total Points:
Chapman - 1073
Redick - 1084

FG Percentage:
Chapman - 47.5%
Redick - 41.8%

3 Pt Percentage:
Chapman - 40%
Redick - 39.7%

FT Percentage:
Chapman - 77.1%
Redick - 93.9%

Total Rebounds:
Chapman - 159
Redick - 196

Assist to TO Ratio:
Chapman - 220/155 = 1.42
Redick - 125/124 = 1.01

Total Steals:
Chapman - 89
Redick - 65

Blocks:
Chapman - 31
Redick - 5

Rex Stats: LINK

Redick Stats: LINK

Personally I'd go with Chapman if we're talking about potential if he had stayed and a time frame comparison, specifically because of his defensive advantage.

Otherwise it's hard to say when one guy had a full two years in addition to the other.

How on earth did Redick outrebound Chapman by that margin?

I wondered the same thing. But during his freshman year F Richard Madison had 216 rebounds. That's all I could figure.

All I know is that Rex was fun as hell to watch. I was pretty young but I can still remember this dunk over Louisville. Loved the guy.
