Carpenter, Arenado, Freeman & Baez. It’s gonna be close. I’d be lying if I said one really stood out.

Probably Carpenter, which is amazing considering his slash line through mid May.

An argument could be made for a few other people though. I think you could even make an argument for Jacob deGrom (he is the NL leader in fWAR, despite the fact that he has a losing record)

Maybe Carpenter if he played on a team that was worth a damn.

I remember in May, a bunch of Cardinals fans on here were talking about how he was done.

he was hitting .170, and grounding out or flying out into the shift, every at bat. He looked done.

I know there was a few guys who kept talking about how his hard hit rate was way 2 high for him to continue hitting .170. I was like ok, sure! All he does is drive it into their gloves. He showed me.

Yeah, he still had an elite xwOBA (expected results based on exit velocities and launch angles plus walks/strikeouts) through May, he was just brutally unlucky. It is correcting big time now.

#9 El Mago. frick Carpenter. You can’t suck that bad and then get hot and think you can win the MVP. Oh and frick the cardinals.

Curious why you think they are so far ahead of the pack? What has Freeman done that Carpenter hasn't?

It’s gotta be Baez. Anyone that watches him day to day sees the instinctual plays he makes both in the field & running the bases that are hard to quantify. He’s been fricking with the league all year, making them look like little leaguers. I’ve never seen anything like it

He also has a .333 OBP. He has been great and I don’t think he is an unreasonable choice because everything else has been so good, but he’s definitely not a slam dunk.

He’s been my favorite player in baseball for several years. It’s so fun to watch on a daily basis. It’s too bad the MVP votes don’t give as much weight to defense and base running.

Never said slam dunk

He has 20 steals & has played 3 positions. OBP any ideal but I think Freeman & Arenado are the only other ones with a legit case.
