Umm

The guy is 23 years old, plays in the nation's capital, is coming off of his first all-star appearence & first playoff appearence, has an extremely talented backcourt mate, produces highlight plays on a nightly basis, and plays in a weak conference.
Plus he is an extremely likable guy: LINK

ESPN will never allow Anthony Davis to become a star unless he leaves NOLA... Sadly, your 'star rating' is mostly based on where you play, not the things you do

Kevin Durant is playing in Oklahoma City.

Chris Paul was definitely a star prior to leaving NOLA.
shite I'd say AD is a bigger star right now than CP3 was in his second year.

Yea the whole, "you must be in a big market to be a star" mentality is fricking retarded and defies reality.

Some guy's status can be boosted because of a market, but if you have the talent the NBA will prop you up like crazy.

Beal and Wall
Also, Wiggins.
Also, Wiggins.

Absolutely. Look at Nick Young in LA or JR Smith in NYC.
But as you said, If you have the talent, the NBA will showcase you no matter where you play.
LeBron has never played in a big market.

I never said he is a super star... all I said is that he could be 1. Youre acting like I said he already is a star or hes on the cusp of being a star, and I never said anything like that. I just said hes on my list of guys that could become a star and that hes caught the attention of the NBA with this past season. Hes 1 of the top young players in the game and has plenty of room to grow and improve.
Yea its gonna be his 5th year.... still 23years old though. And we have no idea what his 5th year will be like... He could stay the same as this past year, he could get worse, he could get a little bit better, or he could get a lot better. And when you consider the growth of Beal and the improvements of the Wizards as a team, I would think hes only going to get better. And the fact that the Wizards are a team on the rise is huge for him because it gets that team in the national media.
I do agree that John Wall struggled his first few seasons in the NBA. He also had little help, but thats neither here nor there. But, the light bulb went off during the last month of the 2013 season and that carried over to this past season. Hes not nearly as erratic as he used to be, nor is he making as many dumb decisions as he used to. He still makes mistakes, but it was obvious that the light bulb went off for him. And I think hes going to start getting better and better.
I mean guys improve at different times. Not every player makes that huge leap between 1 year. Some guys steadily improve year by year, like Mike Conley. For some guys, the light bulb goes off later in their career and they take their game to a whole new level, like Kyle Lowry. I mean just because its his 5th year doesnt mean he wont get any better.
And no, disagreeing and not thinking John Wall could potentially a star doesnt make you a douche, and we are having a great discussion why we think he could / cant be star. But saying stuff like "well you dont know what a star is" does make you seem like a douche. Very condescending...

Wall will definitely not be a Superstar unless he wins multiple championships. I think people are throwing the phrase Superstar around too liberally. Its not just being a great player. You also have to be a household name. People who don't give a frick about basketball have to be able to recognize you.
So which 1 is it? You have to be a great player? Win titles? Be a household name?
I personally dont think a superstar has to be a household name. People who dont give a frick about basketball and rarely watch only see what the media portrays and pumps up. And I dont really care who the media pumps up. They pump up average players like they are superstars and at the same time they neglect great players and fail to give them the attention they deserve.
IMO, being a superstar is all about being a great player and successful and has nothing to do with being a household name, especially to the people that dont give a frick about bball.

AD has to have some playoff success before he reaches superstar status. great talent though
Lillard took a big step forward with his playoff performance this year. He's the closest thing to vintage AI there is in the league right now. Not sure if there has been a superstar from Portland though.
Kevin Love is very close to blowing up. He's highly marketable, IMO.
Blake Griffin is a tough call, but I think he probably qualifies as a superstar.

Ryan Kelly is the correct answer here.

I do like DeMar DeRozan a lot. And he's improved a lot. After they traded Rudy Gay, he pretty much averaged 24ppg, 4.5rebs, 4.5 assists. The only guys that average 20ppg+, 5rebs +, 5assists + are like LBJ, Westbrook, Harden, KD, and maybe 1 or 2 more players.
DeMar took a big step this last season.

Mainly because a piece like Derozan or Harden is exactly what they need to put them over the top.
If they don't frick up that pick we could've had our parade down Beale Street
