You're right, but Newton is also a totally different quarterback...

He's already one of the best dual threat quarterbacks to ever see a NFL field. He proved that as a Rookie, in a shortened offseason. He's only going to get better.

Not that that's bad...

Not many can say they're even close to the Pats/Saints.

What is going to be the difference is those teams will lack a real running game. If NO would let Ingram and Pierre carry it more (I'm a Saints fan, so don't freak out when I say this) and Brees wouldn't statpad NO would have a run game.

By all means Newton will throw for 4200ish and the combo of Cam/Will/Stewart will rush for 2600 yards.

While that may be true, youve got a 2nd year quarterback with limited weapons goin against two HOF QBs with more Recievers than they know what to do with. My point wasnt that the Panthers offense will be terrible, my point is that its stupid to think they will be in the running for the Best offense in tve league

The Panthers are in good position to be a top two offense, but the lowest they could fall imo is 5th.

Saints averaged 17 ypg less than Carolina and ranked 6th in the NFL in rushing....

Once teams took away the bomb to Carolinas angry hobbit of a wr1 cam's game regressed big time. He wasn't nearly as successful over the 2nd part of the season. Brady Brees Rogers Eli put up stats but also win games and read defenses. It's going to be another learning year for Newton.

Carolina has issues, a second year with Newton and a full offseason defensive coordinators will come up with something. They will never stop Newton but they can do some things to force him into bad decisions.

Carolina has no #2 receiver, and as much as we like Stewart/Williams both have been ineffective at times. Cam can not win every game alone and he does take more hits than most QB's due to his running ability, so he needs continued health.

Carolina has issues on defensive more than anything. Defensive line/secondary/etc.... They should improve on defense but they could use help and play in a competitive division. They could win 8-11 games this season. I could see them splitting with Saints and Falcons and not sure what the rest of schedule.

Carolina also needs a better kicker, last year they missed what 8-10 field goals last year and it cost them games.

Many fans fail to realize the importance of film study & how the lack of game film can hinder a defense in preparation. The Panther's entire offensive system was new. Going into last season, defensive coorindators didn't have a clue what to expect from Newton or how he would be used in Carolina's offense.

Yes Cam is an extremely talented, young QB but his early success last season can be pointed heavily to that factor. You can't hold a talent like Newton down but towards the middle to end of the season, after teams finally had some film to study off of, there was a drop off as well as times of frustration for Newton.

With a season's worth of film at their disposal, defensive coordinators will have a better understanding of Newton's strength's & weaknesses. I have no doubt Cam has put in his work in the film room as well but he will be facing different schemes thrown at him this year with sole purpose to slow him down. This is one of the reasons successful rookie QB's like Ryan, Flacco & Freeman have had "drop offs" in their second seasons.

If Newton is to have a similar or better season in 2012, it's going to be determined by how well he & the offensive coaching staff adjusts to the opposition's adjustments this season.

we were 6th in the NFL in rushing yards last year and 4th in ypc. 3 of the teams in front of us have dual-threat QB's skewing their stats. So your point is completely invalid

We were the best offense in NFL history for a reason

They could very well have the best, or second best, offense in the NFL

The Saints averaged 10 more ppg last year, and Carolina had the offensive benefit of playing from behind in most of their games

Teams figured Newton out in the 2nd half of the season last year.

-Over the final eight games, Newton averaged 207 passing yards a game, 18th over that time.

-Newton's 7.21 yards per attempt over the season's second half was 14th best in the NFL and worse than, among others, Matt Moore's average.

- Quarterbacks who averaged more passing yards per game than Newton in the second half of the season: John Skelton, Mark Sanchez and Alex Smith.

-Since 1991, 21 quarterbacks have rushed for at least six touchdowns in a season, but only one has rushed for at least six touchdowns two years in a row (Tebow)

Look for a regression. Couple that with no WRs outside of Smith and no TE, and Carolina is looking at 8-8
