Where was Reggie Bush from?

San Diego. Close enough, but yes, exaggerated on the 50 miles. Southern California in general.

All that talent is going elsewhere these days.

That's the point. Getting the right coach is someone who can keep that talent at home. Look at the Heisman odds this year and then look at where almost all of them are from. Southern California. Look at where the top producing areas are for the NFL. Southern California is right up there as well.

Right now Riley going from Oklahoma to USC would be a step down. Besides the fact that Oklahoma is just a much better program and far ahead there’s a financial side to this. USC doesn’t have the money to bring the complete staffs a bigtime coach would need. There was an article about this a couple years ago that said the cost of living for assistants is so high they don’t wanna go there. USC can make the big HC hire and pay him market value but they can’t afford the assistants, advisers and shadow staffs the elite programs all have.

I think it was Josh Pate that said all these 17 year old recruits don’t remember a dominant USC. None of these kids are in love with them. Also, their fanbase sucks and will only be worse.

I agree that the right coach can do very well. I do wonder if years of ineptitude have knocked them down a peg.

I agree with another poster about the commitment level it takes now. Mario had chosen less pay to have staff, analysts, and more S&C coaches. Elite programs have to be very committed and not sure how committed they are.

Guess they read this board.

If they are going to spend big money:

Lincoln Riley. He sees the tough SEC schedule he's going to have to navigate in the future and bales before he has his first three loss regular season.
