He collapsed in the dugout after exiting the game.
Danny pitched for the Cajuns and has had a nice Major League career.
Speculation is that it's an aneurysm. He was stabilized and taken into surgery this morning.

Surprised it hasn’t made sportscenter.

For real. They’re scary as frick. One of my kickboxing coaches had one a few months ago. One of the healthiest people you could ever meet, but aneurysms do not discriminate one bit. He’s going to have to learn how to walk again, which is crazy considering how strong, agile, and downright deadly he was prior to that.

Stable but critical condition following a brain hemorrhage

White Sox pitcher Danny Farquhar suffered a ruptured aneurysm that caused a brain hemorrhage last night. He is stable but in critical condition in the ICU at Rush University Medical Center.

Probably fortunate it happened in the dugout and not in his apeartmenr/wherever he lives.

Scary as hell - any idea what causes them?

A little weakness in the wall of the artery. It balloons out and if it ruptures you're toast without immediate aid, and sometimes even with it. IIRC it's what killed John Ritter. My great grandfather, who I never met, died of an abdominal aneurysm as he was being prepped for surgery to fix it.

I know no warning signs exist, but are they hereditary or from high BP or just pure unlucky?

This is awful. Danny is one of the best guys you could ever know. Great friend, teammate and more importantly a wonderful husband and dad. He is the most unassuming and humble pro athlete maybe in the history of sports. He’s been making big league money since 2011 and he and his wife share a car. Never once has this guy given into the trappings of pro athlete life

You can get ultrasounds to check for them. I think mainly hereditary. IIRC white males are at a greater risk.

since it doesnt concern the yankees or red sox and doesnt involve pop culture it will not make sportscenter

I really hope this ends well for him. I've been concerned about it since I heard about it. Even if he is never able to take the field again, I hope he comes out of this ok.

Ok after an aneurysm is relative. I wish the best for him and his family.
