I would've said ECU a few years ago, because of their rabid fans and relatively sustained success over two decades, but they've fallen off a cliff.

Coastal could be intriguing if they really decide to pump money into athletic department

I’d like to see how Arlington does once they add football.

If nothing else we could have a great recruiting pitch if we played games at AT&T Stadium.

But seriously, we got rid of it in 1985 since nobody cared. Nothing has changed, if anything we have even more international students who have zero interest in football. Now if there was a college cricket league...

Actually Southern Methodist was a predecessor Methodist denomination which ultimately became part of today's United Methodist Church.

No Boise St? I know it’s they don’t have the best resources but they’ve won 10+ games (including 8 zero or one loss seasons) in 16 of the last 20 seasons.

I used to think Tulsa would jump into Big 12 if it expanded but the academics there are way too tough for them to add multiple sports

They also only have 4K students.

Umm you read what he posted? He said no school with a direction in their name. Last time I checked Southern is a direction. And thanks for the attempted lecture about SMU.

They also have gallons of Cash and Wake has as small enrollment

They added PE as a major to help them get players in the 90’s. It was a huge thing for them.

Tulsa has always been major in football they just don’t want to add sports.

As far as SMU adding baseball they could play in Frisco it’s a 30 min drive up 635

If SMU added UNT would. UNT just knew they were going into the SWC in the 90’s

Wake is small, but still almost twice as big as Tulsa. I don’t think Wake would be put in a P5 if the conferences were created today either.

I respect the Tulsa program. They have a ridiculous number of conference titles, but I’ve never considered them a P5 potential program.

Boise is tricky. They’ve been the best G5 this century, but I don’t see what advantages they’d have over P5 schools.

Their appeal to recruits is their winning tradition, but they’d possibly lose that if they went P5.

Like Ohio, Louisiana could easily support two P5 teams but instead has a ton of G5 and FCS teams.

Idaho is a pretty fast growing area... i feel like Boise can be their P5 and they'd have a good fanbase

i guess BYU counts as a P5 now?

UNLV is in a growing area.

This comes down to 2 conferences really. The AAC and the MWC. Any school currently at the top of the AAC could make the jump, as well as could a couple MWC schools.

AAC:

Houston
UCF
Cincinnati
Memphis
UConn
USF

MWC

Colorado St
Boise St
Utah St
Nevada

There really isn’t any other realistic choices IMO. It will be interesting to see what the Big 12 does in the near future. Stay at 10 or expand? I think expansion is inevitable for them to survive. But who knows?

ACC adds USF/UCF, Cincy, Uconn and maybe Houston when several schools leave for the SEC/Big 12 in the next realignment.
