Which G5 school is best suited to compete in and join a P5 conference?

I say Houston in the Big 12. They spent P5 money on Holgorsen. They are the only G5 to get a 5 star recruit(Ed Oliver). There is plenty of talent in and around Houston to compete in the Big 12.

Houston, San Diego state, UCF, USF are all schools that I could see doing well in a p5

Cincinnati or probably Georgia Southern
Ohio should have two P5 teams
Georgia should have 3.
Texas, California and Florida already have too many P5 schools

I don’t buy Houston being able to jump unless they can get some fan support to stay with them.
I’d say either MAC team or a Florida team

SMU should be a no brainer but they seem to hold themselves back

No baseball and the admin doesn’t want to move. That’s why they lied to Jones and hired Sonny.

I mentioned them in the other thread. There is no reason they shouldn’t be competitive in football.

Sure there is now and it comes not from Athletics. The Administration. See what they did to Brown?
They’ve lied to multiple sports coaches and not delivered. Moody was done because it benefited more than just basketball.

The sleeper in Texas will be UTSA I’d like to see how Arlington does once they add football. It will hurt all the Texas schools like when FIU and FAU hurt Miami initially

SMU or Houston since both have histories of being top tier programs. Houston went to Cotton Bowls when they were in the SWC and SMU is a program with a good history.
Any school that has a direction in their name will never join a P5 conference.

Yet you list SMU
What is the S for

Colorado St won’t because CU won’t allow it
I used to think Tulsa would jump into Big 12 if it expanded but the academics there are way too tough for them to add multiple sports

UCF gets a lot of hate but they are the answer. Huge enrollment. Warm weather. Super easy to recruit there. Orlando isn’t a major TV market but isn’t shabby. Football program produces a good product the last few years. Basketball team on the upswing and almost beat Duke in the tourney.

UCF solely due to their alumni base.

Obvious answer is UCF. Houston is close and is another good answer.
Cincinnati has always been on the cusp

I took this to mean in all sports...
No particular order after, but UCF is a clear number one imho.
UCF
Buffalo
Cincinnati
Ohio
