First time going and looks like everything is either booked, or $600+ a night for shitty hotels.

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm going to stay in Columbia and just make the hour drive.

Maybe try AirBnB?

Any idea how traffic is from Atlanta?

We are going coming from Mississippi, so I hate to stay on wrong side. I looked at Columbia, though.

Last two years I've stayed in Atlanta and made the drive.

Left at 630am and had zero traffic.

Thanks, Toula. I can stay at the Ritz in Atlanta for $319 or the Microtel in August for $400.

RAMADA LIMITED AUGUSTA/NEAR FORT GORDON
2154 Gordon Hwy, I-520/Exit 3A Bobby Jones Exp,Augusta, GA 30909 US

I stayed here last year and booked around this time, maybe even later and they had rooms for a decent price, don't remember exactly what. Open bar in the lobby, aka small room with the checkin counter and a table, was a nice touch, it's just an ice chest of beers but I'll take it. It's definitely not "nice", but considering you wake up around 530am and spend minimal time there it doesn't really matter.A shuttle will come pick you up from there and drop you back off.

Stayed just southeast of Atlanta last year. Nicer room, much cheaper and easy drive. Just watch for cops on the interstate on your way in.

that one is booked for the days I need. I got wednesday practice round tickets. I'm thinking I will stay in atlanta or columbia and drive early that morning; or make a longer trip of it and stay in Charleston for a few days.

It's hard to do because of the uncertainty, but a week or two prior hotels will have some cancellations (or are holding rooms back) and you can scarf up a room for a cheaper rate than what they are going now. We got a room at the Red Roof for about $290 last year and $315ish the year before.

Doing the same, have a friend who lives up there and runs a big golf shop, so gonna play golf Saturday and Sunday, hit the practice round Monday, fly home Tuesday.

Styed here last year -

they even had room available that night when we arrived. Very easy drive to and from Course.

What area did you stay in because that can be extremely nice or extremely dangerous

It was a clean, brand hotel, but I didn't want to walk around the neighborhood. Can't remember which hotel. A hilton property I think. I was only there for about 6 hours.

Try Aiken,SC only twenty away, but don't know the up-charge since I live here. Or Columbia closer than Atlanta and shouldn't be too expensive.
