they dont always get called for carry or palm or travel but when they do the player never understands the call.

Any idea how to get a 6 year old boy to stop trying to shoot from the fricking parking lot and get him to start shooting properly and from close range?

When I was coaching middle school girls bball team it was the same issue. So I picked the best shooter and told her in front of the team that I would bet $5 she couldn’t make 3 shots in a row. She got to pick anywhere on the court. Of course she shot 3 layups. Then I asked all the girls why she shot from so close and not from outside the arc. They all said it was because she wanted to make sure the shots went in. Then I asked what’s different in a game and it led to a discussion about percentages. I saw the “lightbulbs” go off. After a game or two they went back to bombing 3s but I thought it was a good demonstration. If your son cares about strategy then it may take hold…but if he just wants to looks like Steph Curry then good luck and I’m not sure what you can do about that

This is a good strategy. I mean, he’s 6 and built like me so I have no delusion of him playing past middle school, but I may try this next time in the drive way.

I don’t know your background with bball and his love of the game. But even if he is not tall I have always felt that there is room on any HS team for someone who does “dirty work” … rebounding, tough perimeter defense, out hustling guys for loose balls. Coaches need this just as much as silky smooth scorers. Still takes a lot of work from the player but can often make up for height/speed issues. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

We play h-o-r-s-e every year at thanksgiving and my younger cousin always wanted to shoot everything from well beyond the 3 pt line. He finally came to his senses and started shooting makeable shots. He’s 30.

Yes. Putting it in your palm causes you to push the ball more when it should roll off your fingertips and lifted toward the basket.

Best summer camps as a kid. Seeing Shaq, CJ and all those guys was awesome.
