When did holding up 4 fingers after the 3rd quarter become a thing?

There have always been some people that did it, but now everyone does it, players and fans, at every game. I seem to remember it becoming a big thing, at least at LSU games, somewhere around 2007 or 2008

Fans doing it is just dumb. Players and coaches I have no problem with it.

I think it is awesome.

If you hate it, i dont really get why. Besides just wanting to hate on things other people enjoy

In what way is it awesome? Any minute appeal it may have ever had is surely gone now that every single team and fanbase try to do it like it's their special thing.

I hate it.

If teams would hold up two fingers and bust their butt in the second quarter, they might be comfortably in front for the fourth quarter.

Yes, it's the "everybody is entitled to my opinion" syndrome.

I heard that it started at Miami in the 70s or 80s. Saban and Scott Cochran have brought new life to it, though.

Bryant started it at Alabama in the 60s. Howard Schellenberger, who was an assistant under Bryant at the time, brought it to Miami and popularized it in the early-80s.
