All dome's are eye sores. Glad they are becoming a dying breed.

Other way around, and Philips is about to undergo a renovation.

Atlanta is the $50,000/year millionaire of cities who "needs" a new set of golf clubs

New Orleans is the trashy cocktail waitress that you can do dirty shite with on the first date.

better than Superdome but the Saints manage to keep playing in it.

The Dome was basically rebuilt after Katrina. Totally gutted and made for better everything.

Katrina was a blessing to the Saints and NO, ONLY IN THE SENSE OF THE DOME BEING REBUILT.

Location, Location, Location

This was printed in 2010:

"....the (Ga.) Dome is located right in the middle of the 5th worst violent crime area in the country. 1 in 8 chance of being a victim of violent crime in the area."

At the time the Georgia dome was in the 5th highest crime neighborhood not in just Atlanta, but in the entire USA. I can vouch for the danger from my own experience in 2012 while following the Saints there. Walking to the stadium with my wife, we had a 5 minute encounter that losing our lives was probably a coin toss. This is while walking in typical game crowd on a familiar route... went from what seemed normal situation to quickly engulfed in thug-arse hostiles, one that approached me closest let it be known they were strapped. I'm 6'4", 230lbs, in excellent shape but staying calm and a little luck is probably what saved us. #1 lesson is don't wear Saints colors to the Ga. Dome.

The Georgia Dome was a perfectly acceptable stadium. I have been there several times, most recently in 2012 and it should have had plenty of life left.

That being said, I think Atlanta's new dome will be very cool. It is just an unnecessary expenditure of resources. If it was entirely funded by Blank/the Falcons that would be one thing, but it has hundreds of millions in public funds.

Fans who say the first thing they think of when they see it is an anus are weird. I think of a camera shutter.

I actually like it.

The winning design, submitted by HOK,[35] featured an eight-panel retractable roof that resembles a pinwheel, and a glass wall that opens with the roof, to allow in fresh air.[36] The roof design included eight triangular translucent panels, that when open would create the illusion of a bird's wings extended. Surrounding the opening of the roof would be a halo video board that will enclose the playing surface, stretching from one of the 10 yard lines to the other and then curving around the end zones to complete the oval.[37]

quote:

Architect Bill Johnson said the circular opening in the roof was inspired by the Roman Pantheon ("Pantheon" was also the working name for the building design). The roof was designed to be made of a clear, lightweight polymer material that can adjust its opacity to control light, and much of the exterior will be clear polymer or glass to allow views to the outside. The middle concourse and upper bowl were eliminated in the east end zone to allow for an unobstructed view of the Atlanta skyline.[36]

That stadium will be one of the best. I guess indoor stadiums with glass showing the skylines will be the thing of the Future. Arlington, Minnesota, Indy, now ATL. Can't remember if Detroit's have the glass.

The technology incorporated in the stadium will set it apart from all the other super stadiums apparently, everything I've read indicates it will be the nicest stadium in the world by a good measure
