Unless your the dr delivering the baby, no need for you to be there. 50% chance at best that she'll deliver before the game is over.

Question, are the wife's brother and his wife Braves fans?

Go to the game with your guys, get them some sort of infant Braves gear as a gift, go catch up with the family afterwards and give the gift to them.

It's not like it's YOUR wife in labor, there's nothing you'd really be doing but hanging out in the waiting room anyway, right? And there will be tons of family there already.

Screw missing the game. If she just went into labor, odds are there gonna be there all night. Get some donuts and coffee or whatever after the game and bring it by the hospital. Easy cal

Don't take the bait.

Bite the bullet. Go to a different game.

It's your niece/nephew, not YOUR child or Grand child. Uncle's are not required to be there for the birth (man law).

This is what i've come up with.

Question, whats her personality and do her folks openly voice negative things?

You just spent a whole week with them, you're done enough. Go to the game.

Are you supposed to be there for the birth of someone else's child? I get your wife going to support her sister, but your attendance is unnecessary.

Maybe I'm just weird

Go to game. Text your brother-in-law nonstop with drunken pics and updates from the game.

Wife texted me today that her brothers wife just went into labor and sounds like she will give birth by dinner time up the street in Marietta. Wife tells me " you can still go to the game. It's up to you."

Well obviously this is a trap and you will somehow pay for going to the game, though I don't see why you should be expected to go to the hospital. Her brother's wife is having a baby? Geez.

You can "still" go to the game and "it's up to you?" There's obviously an implicit expectation that you tend to her wishes in this matter.

What the hell do you do at the hospital if it's not your wife anyway? I would probably be watching the game on my phone. It seems asinine but I sensed the guilt tossed in there about my decision.

I will keep the board posted.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. My wife wouldn't expect me to be at the hospital for that nor would any of my friends wives if in the same situation. Is this some weird southern tradition? Wife's brothers wife and you are expected to sit at the hospital? Are you the obgyn and you left that part out?

the "it's up to you" is what Has had me second guessing. Never once during this pregnancy did I think I would be at the hospital for the birth. Seeing as how this thread is almost 50/50 I see it was a relevant question.

You might try reverse psychology. Don't ask her what you should do, tell her you are going to skip the game. Maybe she'll tell you straight up she wants you to go to the game.

Basically if you decide to go to the game it's not ok, but if she decides you should go to the game then everything is fine.

Either that, or tell her you agreed to be the designated driver. That way it looks like you're being a responsible adult and not just trying to skip out on the hospital to go have a good time.

Get completely shite faced at the game and show up at the hospital blackout. If you can, leave your car running in the ambulance drop off area
