speaking of awesome advertising campaigns, have yall been hearing the supercuts commercials where they say "any haircut can chat up the ladies in the club, but only a supercuts haircut makes 2 omelettes the next morning."

So, I guess you are SO certain all of the people mentioned in this thread would have been great? Title of the thread doesn't mention anything about being great or being scrubs, just what might have been.

That seemed to be the basic premise of the thread, yes.

I don't think anyone said "man had he worked hard he could have been the next Keith Poole"

Mickey Mantle without the injuries and probably the alcohol would have all the home run records. He probably would have been better off playing in Kansas City or St. Louis instead of the Big Apple because he hated the attention.

Had Griffey stayed healthy and STAYED IN SEATTLE, he would have a nearly unbreakable home run record.

Ted Williams is another good one. Had he not gone to war during his prime (for 4 years) we would be talking about a guy who put up Ruth like numbers in the 1940's and 1950's and finished with
.345 avg / 700+ home runs / ~2300 RBIs / 2200 runs / and 3500 hits.

Lou Gehrig, had he stayed healthy and received more playing time early in his career, could have held some nice records.

The 3 that come to mind for me are

Len Bias
Hank Gathers
and Michael Ray Richardson

to a lesser extent Bernard King

I don't see how staying in Seattle would've helped him break any HR records. I remember thinking part of the reason he left was that he never would've been able to hit very many HRs out of the cavernous Safeco Field.

Instead, he got to play those years at the Great American Smallpark.

Seattle was a good hitters field, whether he or A-Rod would say it is irrelevant. Texas and Colorado were better though. Imagine if A-Rod would have stayed in Texas.

Maybe the Kingdome was in the 90's. But since Safeco Field opened in 1999 it's been consistently near the bottom of the league in park factor. It's a true pitchers' park.

edgar martinez, if he'd have started playing fulltime at age 22 and not age 27.

also if griffey gets to have time off from injury returned to him, i think bonds should as well as far as seeing who is the HR king. probably gets him to around 840 HRs.

RICHARD DUMAS!!!!!! The dude would have been the next Jordan if it wasn't for crack! The dude scored 25 points on 12 of 14 shooting in the 1993 NBA Finals as a ROOKIE....and this was with Jordan and Pippen guarding him!

HERE IS THE VIDEO OF IT!!

Toe Nash

quote:

"I couldn't believe what I saw," Latino recalls. "He hit one homer from the right side, about 380 feet. He hit one from the left side more than 400 feet. He pitched and was throwing in the 90s and blowing people away. He was The Natural."

When Peter Gammons writes an article about you and you have never even played high school baseball you are the ultimate what have been.
