What happened to putting someone back to return short FGs?

Obviously everyone remembers kick 6 but that wasnt the only one that people tried. It was a trend for a little while it seemed but now I feel like I routinely see balls bounce right at the back of the endzone and theres no one even there to try a return like what just happened in UT OSU

Literally was just telling my brother this
If the scouting report before the game was his career long was 47 yards. Put someone back there on ones that are 50 plus and out.

There was 5 seconds left. Seems to me having someone back there would be helpful to defend any fakes since they need to get to the endzone
