Next thing you're going to tell me is that Green Bay copied their colors from Notre Dame.

Front office claims it stand for Germans, but not positive.

I always assumed it was for Green Bay too. It seems like during their orientation to the team, they'd mention that too the players.

I like sports tradition and random knowlege, but this may be one of the gayest things I've ever heard.
Next year, Green Bay should change the logo to "VD" for victory and determination.

I think this is more of a "which came first: the chicken or the egg". Graphic designers often invent back stories to sell their logos/designs to clients.
It would be naive to think it doesn't stand for both.
If they played out of Madison would their logo still be a G...no. It would probably be an M for Massive Meatheads Munching on Mozzarella or some other b.s
Exactly!!!
This is a bunch of horseshite made up by marketing people using revisionist history. If the Packers had the historical success of, let's say, the Arizona Cardinals (pre-superbowl), then the "G" would stand for some other bullshite. Or maybe, the "G" would stand for Green Bay, which I'm sure was the original intent.
FYI, little know fact: The "SF" on the 49ers helmet doesn't actually stand for "San Fancisco", as many believe. The "SF" actually stands for "Success First." This is indicative of the organization mantra which brought 5 titles to the Bay area. (See how easy it is to make bullshite up and have naive people believe it)

My brother told me about the meaning atleast 15 years ago. They didn't put the G on the helmet until '61, when they won the championship and Green Bay became "titletown"
quote:
The oval logo was created in 1959 by Packers equipment manager George "Dad" Braisher for Lombardi. The logo would be added to the helmets in 1961, the team's first and only helmet logo. To most people's minds, the "G" stands for "Green Bay". However, when the logo was designed and adopted, it was determined the "G" would stand for "Greatness". Although the team has used a number of different logos prior to 1961, the "G" is the only logo that has ever appeared on the helmet. The Packers have granted limited permission to other organizations to utilize a similar logo, notably the University of Georgia and Grambling State University, the Packers hold the trademark for it. Adopted in 1964, the Georgia "G", though different in design and color, was similar to the Packers' "G". Then-Georgia head coach Vince Dooley thought it best to clear the use of Georgia's new emblem with the Packers. However, since its inception in 1961, the Packers' "G" has been redesigned several times and now actually looks like Georgia's original 1964 "G".
