Leach has never coached from a place of advantage that wasn't self created.

That's another good point. Programs tend to hire the opposite of the last coach a lot of the times. I think after Saban LSU was not going to hire another raging dickhead like Petrino.
ETA: JDR also is similar to Carroll in a lot of ways.

That's true maybe he could, but I just think his personality and overall style work better at 2nd tier type programs like TTU. Maybe he would do well at Texas if given the chance, but some how, I think they can do better.

Leach couldn't coach at Texas and still spend half the year in Key West. He's where he should be right now.

The perception is that he's a strange guy who might blow up. The Craig James incident has nothing to do with it IMO.
