What does that matter? Before Leach got there, there were literally one of the worst (if not THE worst) teams in all of the FBS
maybe so, but 3-9 is nothing.

. shite from the 90s doesn't matter. Hell, Colorado won the National Title in the 90s
i just mentioned that to preempt any it's Wazzu type comments. I wouldn't expect him to win the Pac 12 or anything, but he should win more than 3 games.

First season is always terrible for a new coach at a rebuilding place. Even if the coach is great. Even Saban's first season at Bama was shitty.

You can throw questions around every coach in the country. The questions becomes can he recruit, win and make the school money.
That's basically what the other question means. He found under the radar type guys to run his system at TTU, I really don't know if he can recruit at the high level like Texas and USC require.

Gerry DiNardo went 7-4-1 after taking over an LSU program that had 6 consecutive losing seasons and he wasn't even any good.
I don't completely hold the 3-9 against Leech given the school and circumstances but I do think you guys are grossly over rating him. There are several coaches I think Texas and USC can hire that are better.

He made TTU a BCS contender. FACT
They are in the same conference as Texas. FACT
Texas is a better program than TTU. FACT
Now doesn't it stand to reason that he can do even better at a place like Texas? He already beat the same teams, with worse players.

False - he had one season in which his team won more than 9 games

Yes. What is your point?

Still not understanding what your getting at here..??

His offense would never make it at a big time school. FACT

If you don't get it, I don't what to tell you. I broke it down so a 5 year old could understand.

Really, Auburn, Oregon, TT all play different variations of the same offense. The entire football landscape has moved into the spread with some teams bringing more option vs passing etc..
Posted on 9/30/13 at 2:02 pm to Hoyas
Yeah his offense would never work at Texas because they have to play big time opponents like OU, OK State, Baylor, and the rest of the Big 12
As opposed to when he was at TTU, he got to pick on cupcakes like OU, OK State, Baylor, and the rest of the Big 12

Oregon and Auburn focus more on the running game in the spread and then they pass. TT isn't good.
Leach uses the Air Raid which has yet to be successful at any big D1 program.

I understand what your saying but I mean. it's irrelevant. So he had one year where they were pretty good and that means he made them a BCS contender?
He isn't that great of a coach and his offense is nice for small schools with average talent but it doesn't work for big programs.

The man is into pirates & has pirate shite all over his office. Besides the other weird stuff he's throws out there. Sad to say, image does count when it comes to the big money boosters, one of the reasons Coach O did not fit in with the rich snobs at O.Miss or Vegas Vince did not fit in with the uptown Tulane crowd. Read any indepth article about him & his "weirdness" comes out every time. Right or wrong, that is a fact, too

once and in his biggest game they got absolutley hammered by OU.

really, huh, never knew that, thanks Sherlock.

That's quick Joel, have you always been that quick, or is this something new?

Not necessarily. I understand why you might think that, but it doesn't always work that way.
Part of the reason for his success at TTU (and please note, Spike Dykes had success there as well) was that he was running a different style of offense. Now, as you note others are doing it at big programs, but at the time he started it was not as common. He did it in part, because that system did not require the elite athletes to run it. He could and did plug in several QB's that were lightly regarded and they put up huge numbers. It literally didn't matter who the QB was and they put up the same type of numbers.

Again, the transitive property doesn't always work. He would schedule 4 complete scrubs most of the time OOC and then win 3-5 conference games. 1 of which was Baylor which was absolute garbage before Briles. so, there's 5 wins right there. A&M was most down over that time. OSU was not where they are now. And while he did beat Texas and OU more than once, I don't think he beat both in the same year. He did good at TTU. But I think his style and personality are much more suited to a 2nd tier program like that. It doesn't always translate to the bigger programs.

I like how I was condescendingly breaking it down in simple terms, and you condescend to me for being so simple. Whoosh

i still think this is missing the point. Its not just about them liking having him at the Country Club. There is a lot more to winning CF, especially at a big time program than just diagraming brilliant x's and o's on 1 side of the ball. recruiting and raising money does matter. meshing with the big time HS coaches matters as places like UT and USC. I just don't see Leech working at big programs like that and besides there are plenty of other guys that have had similar or better success that they could hire: Peterson, Patterson, Franklin etc.

Leach is the pirate.
Outlaws work in places like Pullman and Lubbock.
They don't work in the limelight in Hollywood or Eyes of Texas upon you.

Have you seen him on the sidelines or a presser? Dude's a way bigger clown/douche/a-hole than Leach.

that's not why I don't think Leech would be successful at a bigger program. There are many different ways someone can be a douche or an a-hole.

Conventional wisdom would suggest that since Lane Kiffin was a young, brash, offensive (football, and otherwise), players coach that USC will go for a more reserved veteran that probably leans toward the defensive side of the ball.
Del Rio fits the anti-Lane profile. Just prepare for the eventuality that if they hire Del Rio, UCLA will own the town as long as Mora is there.
