re: What determines ‘arm strength’ for a QB, seems like a misnomer

Arm strength to me isn't related to how far someone can throw a ball. Arm strength to me is all about how hard the QB can throw the ball. Can he zip a line drive 25 yards downfield to hit his guy up the seam between the LB and safety?

It's the same with punching power.
Just from looking at this pic, tell me which guy has pillow fists and which guy hits like a mack truck.

You don’t need physically big arms to throw the ball with power
Drew Lock was a rail thin freshman in 2015 but he could still throw as hard or harder than almost any QB in CFB

Generally speaking, if a guy can throw the ball harder than someone, he can also throw it farther

Punching power and hard throwers have always kind of had that "touch of God" factor about them.
Take Deonte Wilder, skinny and light (for his division) lanky, and no real lower body mass.... Yet he has thunder in his right hand.
Pedro Martinez... Skinny (for any weight class), somewhat frail looking, short-ish, no muscle mass., yet he had lightning in his arm.
It's all about your tendons and rotational power for the most part, but hand size and grip strength definetly make a difference in throwing a ball.
