hey im not saying he's "old", im just saying that hurts his value some. On top of his limited game.

Lebron is a freak, we all know that.

joe johnson got paid in his 29 season, we all know how that has worked out. He's going to make $25mil next year.

Stephenson went from a 13/7/4 49fg/35 3pt player on a talented playoff team to an 8/4/4 player who shot 37% from the field and 17% from 3 as he tried to adjust to a bigger role with the less talented Hornets. He's better suited to be a role player on a good team, just like Matthews is.

Matthews is a good teammate and shooter, no doubt. But he has trouble creating his own shot. Something like 70% of his points over his career have came off of assisted passes.

I don't get the age argument. The best player in the world is 30. Players are playing later into their careers then ever. Shooting is one of those things that translates well in to later stages of a players career. He'd be 32 by the end of the supposive deal they are chasing. That's not too old.

Diminishing returns as a player ages whether it be bc of injury or loss of skill vs the amount of cap they take up

Ask Brooklyn how it is employing the likes of deron Williams and joe Johnson. Yeah they are playing later into their career but..

Stephenson was never a great three point shooter. He shot decently for a couple of seasons but it was only on ~3 attempts per game. Matthews on the other hand for the past 5 seasons has shot 5+ threes per game (7 this past season) at nearly 40%. He's a legit three point shooter along with being an elite defender (which Stephenson also falls short of).

Obviously he doesn't have as much value to a team like Orlando but, assuming health, he's worth every penny to a team that already has a structure in place.

We're looking at a 4 year deal here, not a 10.

No one is claiming he isn't a role player. Rather that his paeticular skill set is very valuable. You're making a bizarre comparison because Stephenson and Matthews have very different games and very different reputations.

DeMarre Carroll and Danny Green are good comps in age and skill. Both will get 8 figures this summer. Healthy Matthews is better than both.

All that said, his agent is crazy if he really thinks someone will give him anything close to $15M coming off an Achilles tear.

do you know of any players that make $15 that have never even made an all star team?

Made $14.8 last year, and $15.5 in 2015. I think what you keep missing is that the cap is about to rise. Matthews would have received the $15, or damn close to it, without the injury.

EDIT: I missed the 2nd page before responding, so I see Gordon has already been thrown out there.

Eric Gordon was a 24 year old former 22ppg scorer when he got his deal. A guy that could create his own shot.

Matthews is a 29year old role player, 3rd, maybe 4th best player overall on his own team. A spot up shooter who scores 70% of the time on assisted balls.

tell me how that compares.
