Well, Brady's deal is a 21.5 million cap hit, so they can't afford to franchise Welker unless Brady restructures. If only Brady were not so selfish.

Adam Schefter reporting Pats won't franchise tag Wes Welker

Dude, they would be unstoppable on the rare occasions that they would have Harvin, Gronk, and Hernandez all healthy.

What's the asking price for Harvin? Wouldn't someone like Mike Wallace make more sense?

If they feel Edelman can take on Welker's role, they can get a guy like Wallace to stretch the field, but Wallace won't be cheap either.

This has been known for quite a while
Ehy the hell would they tag him at 11 mil?

Lol wut
Gronk scored 11 TDs While missing 5 games. They got a bargain long term deal for the best TE in the league

Right, they don't seem to want to pay him too much, and certainly not top 5 money.
But I disagree that he'll go disappear on another team. Depending on where he goes (and the QB/system), he could still thrive a la how he fits into the Pats offense. Dude is sure-handed and is a first down machine...lots of teams can use that.

Hes a great player for sure and would be great for another team but any team that spends that kind of coin on him for a guy as old as he is would be, dumb for the lack of a better word

He's got a great motor and underrated speed. Also a gym rat with a fantastic attitude and work ethic.

I don't know. He's 31 and likely has at least 2 or 3 good years left in him, if not a few more (he doesn't seem to really be injury prone).
He's averaged 112 catches and 1,243 yards in his 6 seasons with NE and averages over 11 yards per catch for his career. He's good for about 7 TDs a year and (I'd assume) a ridiculous amount of first downs. He's as top-tier as you can get without being a stud WR. That's worth a good amount of money (even if not top 5 money).

Makes sense. Wes Welker is past his prime.

Doubt it. I think they want to revamp how they play on offense with bigger WRs and Edleman taking over the slot
A guy like Keenan Allen in the draft if he falls would be perfect, as would be a ton of FA WRs

11 million is a ton of money for a wide receiver over 30 with an affinity with for late game drops especially in this FA market of WRs
I dont think the market is going to be as kind to him as he thinks it will unless he doesnt care about playing on a contender
