Ed Werder

quote:

Sources: The most recent offer in negotiations between holdout Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys came from the team. Elliott has been offered a contract making him one of the NFL’s 2 highest-paid RB. That would suggest team offering more than LeVeon Bell and less than Todd Gurley.

Zeke's counter: $100 BILLION DOLLARS

OMG just get a new running back. This shite is absurd. NFL running backs are a dime a dozen and they have a great offensive line. They could bring in someone mid tier and get above average production and save that use that money on defense.

What Jerry should say if he turns down another contract:

he deserves it. when he is directly responsible for a team win (see detroit last season) it will be worth it.

now lets get this done and focus on the super bowl

Zeke is worth it. I'm not a huge Cowboys guy. But, Zeke Elliott is worth this type of a contract as a football player considering what he brings to the team.

Lots of RBs who produce without being high draft picks.

Mixon, Carson, Hunt, Chubb, Conner, Lindsay, Mack, kamara

There isn't a running back alive besides maybe Kamara (because of his route running ability) worth that contract. Never draft a RB in the first round and never give one a second contract.

Does Zeke wanna make money or does he wanna win a Super Bowl? Accepting this offer enables him to accomplish both in a hard cap context despite RBs generally are a dime a dozen

Appears that way to me with how Werder's framing it

Not sure what they’d get but I’d imagine it’s better than nothing. And much better than paying him top dollar.

Zeke has led the NFL in rushing 2 of his first 3 years, and the 3rd he was suspended for bull for 6 games. He is immature and has his of the field stuff, but on the field, he is the best RB in football right now.

Oh, and Dallas' OL isn't what it was his rookie year either. They are a top 10 unit, but maybe not the #1 team like his rookie season and the couple years before he got there

I’ll take a healthy gurley and Barkley over him.

Gurley has knee arthritis. He isn’t going to be completely healthy. Will probably start out with a bang and fade the 2nd half of the year

I’d assume it would be a third and a fifth similar to what Oakland gave up for Antonio.
